Engine stall

Featured Replies

Hey all yesterday I replaced the turbo in my octavia vrs with a brand new oem one. Upon test driving when I accelerated hard and put it into neutral the engine stalls. I've checked all the  vacuum lines etc. The only error code in the car is databus infotainment no signal communication.

Any ideas what it could be?

Also the car has a stage one remap if that helps it ran fine on the old turbo.

Bump

what engine vrs, what year.

Hiya its a 2l petrol 2011. I've solved the stalling problem it was a bad diverter valve. How ever I'm getting Boost Pressure Regulation: Control Range Not Reached. I've checked for boost leaks.

I am now also getting a really high pitch whine under  Acceleration

It sounds like a boost leak.

Try provoking it by having helper(s) hold a rag over the exhaust partially restricting flow whilst another blips the accelerator, you can use a metre or so of garden/washing machine hose to pinpoint the sound.  Hold one end to your ear and probe with the other, careful of hot/moving parts.

That's what I was thinking. It didn't do it before the turbo change. I checked all the boost pipes today and got someone to rev it while I was under it. But it only makes the sound when under load..

It starts to make the sound under load but if I really give it some the sound stops.

Is it a wooshing sort of sound from behind the dash? If so I'd guess its a leak from the turbo outlet pipe as that will have been off

Hi no the whoosh sound I have is due to a vta fitted. It's the high pitched whine in the video. Someone said it sounds like the bearing in the turbo buts it's brand new!!

Partially restricting the exhaust will cause backpressure mimicking the effect of being under load which is why you need an assistant or redneck a potato up the tailpipe whilst you floor it-beware of potential projectile.

Just because your turbo is new doesn't mean anything, that's what warranties are for.

Not knowing why you replaced the turbo, it's maybe a poor oil feed that's at the root of things.

Having listened to it again with headphones it does sound more mechanical like a turbo running without proper lubrication, possibly killing the previous turbo over time and the new item being tight is immediately noisey.

I replaced the turbo due to the oil seal failed and it was leaking oil. Plus the waistgate was loose and all over the place

Not sure but the boost pressure error suggests the turbo is not giving sufficient boost or a pipework leak.  I've never heard that noise on mine but then I've not had a boost pressure regulation fault before.

Hi I tweaked the waistgate a bit yesterday and the boost error has gone. However that whistle remains it sounds like air rushing through the turbo muffler. The muffler is a different design to the old one. The baffles in the new one are a lot bigger.
