Knocking noise from underneath Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi,

Drive a Fabia pd100, over the last month or so got a knocking noise coming from suspension(I think!) when going over pot holes at all speeds. Checked wheels for play, loose exhaust mountings etc and loose undertray trim but can't find anything? Is it shock ab noise or bushes, noise seems mainly from rear.

Ps, its ok over normal rough road surfaces, even over speed bumps just potholes!

Mine has knocked from new which I believe is the exhaust although the garage don't seem to be able to cure it.

There have been problems with the Anti Roll bar bushes, have a search and you should find a picture or two posted up.

You don't say how old the car is.

Car is 2001 model and done 46,000.Exhaust might need replacing soon anyway as back box outer skin is starting to split. Are the front arb bushes a diy or garage job?

As I said, do the search - It's not so much the bushes but the ARB that breaks.

If you find the picture all will be revealed.

Hi Stu,

Checked under front today and yes you are right its the ARB bushes, they looked just as your pics just not the same fitting as they are vertically mounted on part of the sub frame? but no prob. Just to check I pushed part of the broken bush back in and tried it up the road and all quiet for 10mins until it worked itself out again. Will fix asap, can you get them without going to dealers?

I'm afraid I can't take credit for any of it, it's our ever friendly master tech you need to thank.

Get the bushes from the dealers as there are several sizes depending on the ARB you have. Some are £1.90 each some are around £4 each all plus VAT.

cheers they quoted £2.88+vat each and thanks to master tech and all the brilliant info on the forums, just need more spare time now to read pages 25 to the end!

You will need a new anti roll bar, its not the bushes that fail but the collars on the bar itself. A complete Bar is about £50 and comes with new bushes etc.

There you go expert voice of the Master Tech :D;)

Mind you it just cost you another

Took the Fabiain to local garage on Friday to get it fixed, they fitted new arb bushes and all is now ok.No knocking over potholes (lots around Reading) and cost

They fitted just bushes? Were the collars not broken on the bar then?

Sorry not back sooner but busy, yes the offside collar was broken but nearside ok, garage seem to have fitted new bushes as I can't see any collars. However as said before car is ok, I have covered 600miles already since last week and it brakes, steers and corners fine. Tried it on a B rated road last night and that was ok too so !! there you are.

If they have fitted just bushes and the collars have broken off there is nothing to stop the bar sliding sideways and fouling on the subframe.

Hi

I've just been quoted £225 (inc VAT) to replace ARB and bushes. Edit: From the info in the other thread, I'll ask about having it done under warranty and see what they say.

My garage said it might prevent the car from passing it's MOT (they weren't sure as they don't do MOT's), but in any case should be replaced sooner rather than later.

Hi

I've just been quoted

My car has its MOT in a few weeks so will let you know how it gets on, if the ARB only costs £ 50 ish with bushes and they manage to fit it in around 1 hour or so surely £125 is what it should cost.

Hour to fit plus wheel alignment.

ok so thats £125 +25 still £75 to much and as its a known prob ask for wheel Alingment to be done for free.

Dont get nowt for free mate..lol

I would want to be paid for doing the wheel alignment so im sure the company would charge for me to do it.

Expect to pay around £65 + VAT for 4WA.

As a report back, my MOT garage simply wouldn't pass mine if it had a broken collar (telecon today).

The cost of parts quoted was
