Gas Struts for hatch boot

Featured Replies

Hi,

Am looking at replacing manual opening boot gas struts, they are getting very lazy/weak. Car is less than 3 years old.

Part number is 3V5827550. Can anyone suggest an upgrade option?

Thanks.

Sounds like a great excuse for a power boot upgrade to me :D

Try lubricating them first, if you do change them don't underestimate the weight of the hatch.

try a search on the yeti forum, i replaced mine years ago, a derbyshire firm came up with a pair  --  they do a wide range!!

Thanks, what would be best to try lubricate struts, don't want to damage seals? Spray grease?

I think a dry lubricant such as graphite powder should be good. It won't stick dust and dirt... ;)

Go for genuine, they aren’t silly money new from the dealer

Autodoc have them, not sure how their prices compare to main dealer. Note there are two types, depending on if you have rear wash wipe. I added some insulation/weight to my tailgate so may get the uprated versions to replace mine which are also a bit tired (at 6 years old)

Having adventures with these, after two wrong part deliveries I discovered that mine has another part code 3V5827552 . As much as I understood - practically only original parts, BUT... Gas struts have technical parameters , so I have checked them and ordered two possible versions, will let you know how it goes.

It went well. The perfect fit by dimensions that I found corresponds to Seat Tarraco and VW Tiguan m/y 2016 and onwards. Part code 5NA827550. Stabilus part code 291611 . It does the job well and is more wallet friendly.
