Amundsen with Deactivated NAV? How to solve it?

Featured Replies

Fellow members,

I have been reading this forum since long time as a Superb owner since 2015. Now it is the first time I needed to ask something. I hope you guys can help me.

Last month my father bought a Kodiaq 1.5 TSI DSG 150 Prestige as a retirement gift for himself. Here in Turkey, Prestige is the highest trim level in the market after the almighty L&K.

The car is fitted with Amundsen as standard in this trim level(You can see in the pictures). Here's the deal, Kodiaq DOES NOT have a functioning NAV section. Furthermore, it does not have the sd card unit in the glove box compartment (You can see in the pictures). My father is not used to Spotify or Youtube Premium eventhough he has memberships on both. He prefers to listen musics on his SD card.

When I press the NAV button, it says "The function is out of service"(You can see in the pictures). Also the compass does not work and when I choose it on the virtual cockpit (yes I can choose it), the dedicated area is just blank (you can see in the pictures).

I need a solution both for NAV and SD Card reader. Any suggestions? The car has wired android auto so the NAV is not much of an issue, the sd card thing is a priority at this point. Also is it normal that the android auto is not wireless. My younger brother has a 2021 Passat with discover pro (I know it is higher than Amundsen), and his car has wireless android auto. Is there any update etc. for that or is it just discover pro/columbus thing?

TLDR:

1- The NAV is deactivated, what can I do about it

2- No SD card unit. anything I can do about it?

3- Can I install anything to use my android auto wireless?

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Media files can also be accessed using the USB sockets, a memory stick or an SD to USB adapter. Some microsd usb card readers are very compact.

Amundsen requires a Skoda protected SD card loaded with maps and works directly off the card. It needs to be a Skoda SD card as Amundsen uses the secure digital protection on it so an ordinary SD card won't work. In the UK its normally supplied with the car but can be purchased from Skoda or various other outlets.

However......you don't appear to have an SD slot to plug it into. Could this because it's an optional extra in Turkey? I don't know....

Not sure if it would work using an USB adapter, someone else might know. You may have to ask your Skoda dealer.

But with Android Auto, you may well find Google maps/Waze/Here maps/other more useful and they are free apps and updated far more frequently.

Can't help with the Android Auto wireless question, I believe its only supported on the latest MIB3 units. Others may know more.

He has USB C sockets, so MIB3.

You have Bolero, not Amundsen :)

1) On MIB3 Bolero is actually Amundsen with locked navigation (hardware is the same). The only way to get navigation - is to buy SWAP code from your dealer (about 300 euro)

2) No SD cards. Only USB Type C. No way to get SD.

3) Wireless AA works in some countries. Not sure about Turkey. You need to talk with your local dealer.

All MIB3 units (Bolero and higher) supports both wireless AA and wireless CarPlay. But in some countries they are locked (because of some local legal restrictions). For example here in Russia we have working wireless CarPlay, but wireless AA is locked.

Compass unfortunately works only with activated Navigation. I don't know why Skoda decided to it that way...

Good info being posted. Compass is likely GPS derived not a real compass hence not available without navigation.

A real magnetic compass would not work very well in a steel bodied car.....

We (Bolero) has everything installed for working navi and compass. But compass is locked together with NAV.

I have Offroad button and compass on it's view. But it does not work... Skoda (in Russia) confirmed that compass will work only with Navi unlocked.

Thanks for all the information. I also appreciate the other posters with their valuable inputs in the topic.

I actually talked to my dealer and was told that I needed to pay a little under 1.000 Euro for the NAV. I thought maybe he was talking about retrofitting a Columbus. But now I understand that this is just for the code (because he refferred to it as installing a software or something).

I will look further into this. If they are asking 1000 euro just for the code, it is better to get a used columbus retrofitted in the car (around the same cost).

Unless you desperately want sat nav on your dash screen and considering what you're being asked to pay to achieve that, I would either use my phone or buy a stand alone Garmin, which in my experience is superior to sat nav fitted in Skoda cars.

He has Apple car play and Android Auto, many nav apps available for free or minimal cost that are superior to the Skoda nav.

For 1k Euro you can buy new iPhone or Android Phone (or even both :D ) and use them with AA\Carplay :)

You might possibly have success with an electronic (fluxgate) compass if you wanted - these can usually be calibrated (swung) to ignor pretty significant local magnetic anomalies.
