Air Con is being a silly bugger

Featured Replies

I dont know how to explain this but bear with me :)

I have started to use my air con now the summer months have arrived. But when i put my a/c button on, i dont hear any change in engine noise what so ever, and also the air is not cold. The air does get cold after say 10 mins on driving, but its not 'cold cold' air con cold. My brother has a fabia also with air con and within about 2 mins the air is very nice and chilled. Its very different to mine. I brought the car in october with 1 years used skoda car warranty and am now worrying that this is going to cost me alot of money to put right.

The recylce button works great though :)

any ideas?:)

Try putting fan on full, recirc on and max cold. Then go and look under the bonnet and both fans should be. If not it could indicate that the system need a regas to represure it. Sometimes if the aircon not used the seals dry out and allows the system to leak.

Give us some vehicle info to go on and I might be able to help.

its a 51 reg fabia PD100 not modded :)

I have tried the above, full blast with fans, on full cold etc..... and thats when it goes cold eventually. But if i leave it on full cold and the fan on say 1 or 2 it takes a really long time and when it gets cold it isnt cold cold. It also changes when i go round corners, but i think thats the same with fabias :p

You need the fault codes read off for the a/c system, will be a fault with a flap motor or the evap temp sensor.

Will phone the garage to get it booked in :)

Cheers for the help!

P.S How much is it for a re gas? and how often should it need doing?

Whats happening with the two fans on the back of the rad? Are there on? If not then the system is playing up.

Ah, the good 'ole evap temp sensor. :D FWIW, it may just need a regas if it hasn't had one previously (about £60) but worth getting the fault codes read too in case it's something more serious :D
