VRS MPG - what are you getting?

Featured Replies

Did my first real run in the car (Petrol VRS DSG) over the last couple of days, a 390mile round trip from home to Keswick.

Wasn't in a huge rush, and it was mostly very quiet motorway, so I just set the cruise control to 72mph, took it easy, and enjoyed the Lake District.

Was amazed to get 51.5mpg (according to the car) on the run, which is almost what I was getting out of my 19 plate 1.5 petrol (manual) when I drove it sensibly.

The drive home I played around a little more, had it in sport mode from time to time, and was a little more spirited, but still returned 45.2mpg

Am taking these numbers with a pinch of salt as it's what the car said, but am interested in what others are getting in terms of MPG and if this stacks up with others' experiences?

Need to move the decimal point on place to the left

I've had 40MPG out of mine on a quiet country road run but not expecting to get much better, although I've not had the chance to do a long motorway run yet.  My car has only just clocked up 1000 miles today so maybe room for improvement.

23/25 mpg at best... how are you driving your cars...whats your average speed !!! Do you live in city's?

Average, according to the car after 2000 miles is 36.2.  Best I have seen is 42.5.   51.5 seems almost unbelievable - was it downhill most of the way?

Low 30s for me however my daily commute is only 8 miles each way and is quite hilly. On a longer progressive run mid 30s. I’m happy with these figures given power to weight etc

Should add I am now on 2200 miles

I'm at 3400 miles now. Average is around 31 mpg. Best I got (only once) was 37 mpg. So 51 seem impossible to me.  But I don't really care about the consumption. If I did, I would buy a diesel.

@The Big Mac is this almost only city driving?

Agree with you about not caring about fuel consumption...all city driving.. adv 20kmh... dublin traffic nightmare !!!

Averaging 37mpg over 700 miles.  Short journeys in the cold weather it’s about 30.  As above a longer steady cruise on the motorway sees mid 40’s.

Mileage currently 820 miles and the long term average is 34mpg. Managed to get 40.3 on a run from Norfolk to Manchester which I thought was pretty decent.

Lowest 'since start figure was 23.5, I must have had a heavier foot that day.

Just checked the long-term from new

886 miles in total, 38.3mpg average

Sorry you will have to measure how much fuel you put in and distance covered to confirm display accuracy.

AND

Test speedo accuracy against GPS (speedometers are usually optimistic)

Test odometer accuracy against a know distance (odometers are usually much more accurate than a speedo but I have owned one new car that where the odo overread by 8%).

If that all stacks up then you have a really good one.

RS 2.0tfsi DSG

city lots of short drives to shop and back,(usually getting 10-13l/100km)

+

longer trips(usually getting 6-8l/100km)

percentage wise, hard to tell, around 50/50

for now average is 8.8l/100km(this is per app on phone, but honestly i do not believe it, i will measure properly at some point)

this should be around UK 32MPG

========================

But like some said, if MPG is important look at diesel.

Smiles per gallon= a lot.

I did a controlled test today of my 2021 Mk4 RS Combi with 2.0 litre 180kw petrol engine and 1150kms vs my wife's 2015 VW Golf Alltrack with its 1.8 litre, 132kw petrol engine and 75000 kms. The bodies, built on the same VAG platform, are very similar but the Skoda weighs 26kg more (and is 124 mm longer).

I drove the same circuit in each, distance 16kms, using cruise control to maintain either 50km/h or 60 km/h as per the posted limits. The traffic was light and did not impede me. The area was suburban streets with long straight stretches but a few turns at intersections. The terrain was flat. Both cars were in Normal driving mode (not Sport or Eco).

BOTH cars got exactly 7.6 litres per 100kms (37 MPG).

The long term average for both cars, which involves mixtures of short trips, heavy traffic etc, is more like 10-11 ltrs/100km. There is little or no use of cruise control.

I used cruise control for the test since that is where I find I get the best fuel consumption.

So I think that is a good result for the Skoda. In spite of being slightly heavier and more powerful and with a larger engine it gets the same fuel consumption.

Hi. I have a 68 plate tdi VRS (184) but can't seem to get much more than 340 miles from a full tank. (Full tank to red light coming on) (38 litres)  Averaging 45mpg long term. It dies seem rather thirsty and I think I should be seeing 400 miles really.
