Do I need view button when retrofitting VC?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I’m gonna be writing a guide as I do my vc retrofit.

what does the view button actually do and do I definitely need it?

It's slightly nicer with the view button installed:

- Pressing view switches the display style (classic, advanced, modern, basic, sporty).

- Holding view lets you turn display styles on/off.

- It stops the right roller from switching views, I'm sure I had issues with accidentally changing display...

The only negative is the lack of phone button.

Personally, I'd say yes assuming you can find some inexpensive buttons as It finishes the retrofit off perfectly.

edit:

I think it also lets you change which 'preset' (auto, classic view1/2/3) the side panels display rather than going through the headunit to change them.

So everything can be done still without the view button, just different methods

Not quite.

You can't access this menu to change what's shown in the two middle circles:

You can do this via the headunit, it's just much less convenient as it's quite a few button presses via the headunit rather than holding the view button.

This menu won't be shown either which enables/disables display modes:

AFAIK, there is no other way of changing this, you need to have the correct buttons.

I can't even imagine operating a VC without the view button, even if all of the functionalities of it could be carried out by the infotainment, (somehow...) which i realize isn't even the case, so...

Next question there

Where is best to get the controls for dsg non heated

Not sure there is a 'best'?

I'd probably use eBay or a breakers but obviously a dealer/TPS should also sell them :)

My 2019 car has the view button but no VC. It does control the phone. If you have VC fitted does the view button stop controlling the phone as well?

From a 2019 Superb owners manual:

So no, there is no phone control when fitted with a VC as far as I know :)

I didn’t put it in on my vRS when I did the VC and now I have it on the Superb I hardly ever use it as I prefer to customise the information shown. I wish they would allow users to get custom views to a memory.

I must be missing something here...  The View button does exactly that by long pressing it: Switch between the 5 available dial arrangements of which 3 are actually Custom ones set by the user and labelled View 1, 2, 3. as shown in the 1st picture by langers2k a few posts above.

I'm not referring to changing the View modes, that's done by single tapping the View button but again much more of a pain to do via the infotainment when you have a direct button for it right where you need it.

In fact, I find the view button is the cornerstone of the VC's operation on a daily basis as it's a thumb's touch away sparing you from a) taking your eyes off the road b) exiting from your current infotainment screen and and entering several sub-menus every time you want to just look at or cycle through the information of the various View modes or custom Views.
It's definitely the button I'm using the most when browsing the VC.

On my car I can’t set a custom view but then again, my VC and other electrical items are playing up 🤷‍♀️
