Airbag warning light > Seat belt pre-tensioner.

Featured Replies

FABIA Mk.2 (2010)

Airbag warning light on - local garage saying it's a seat belt pre-tensioner problem and it happens quite a lot, needs a new seat belt.

I've just read ealier post saying about faulty connection under passenger seat so confused about garage answer.

I didn't know S/B had a pre-tensioner - it appears to work i.e. locks when pulled sharply.

Any comments please.

Yeah, not the inertia reel mechanism but a small pyrotechnic charge which acts on the the S/B to tighten it under a hard impact.

Thanks for that info, but would a seat belt fault show up on a diagnostic test - as the garage says?

It's not that I don't trust them - I'm confused at the conclusion they have come to from an 'air bag warning' light.

the seat belt pre tensioners and the airbags are all part of the SRS system.

A fault in the pre tensioners will illuminate the airbag light, and yes the airbag controller will log a fault, BUT airbag faults are latched faults and even if the fault is no longer present it needs resetting with diagnostic equipment.

I would be tempted to def check the conditon / connection of the underseat plug and then get the garage to see if the fault clears, if they are not willing to try that, then to be honest I would be going elsewhere.

Thankyou that's really good information.
