Kodiaq Internal boot trim. Repair/replace or just hand it back as is?

Featured Replies

Hi, got a couple of internal issues I need to resolve before handing back the car to VWFS.

I'm guessing that the condition of the boot wouldn't be classed as fair wear and tear?

The replacement cost for that panel from skoda is 95£. I'd have to fit it myself.

I've checked ebay and asked one guy and he got back to me with £120. Yeah right.

I've also reached out to some mobile repair guys and most of them only really do the outside. One I found said £180, yeah right.

Are there not plastic specialists I've searched and have contacted some companies and they don't do this type of repair.

With the BVLA guidelines for the costs of repairs, do they charge for the part or part and labour?

So, basically do i just repair it myself, or hand it back and assume it be the £95 charge.

I’ve never messed a car up as much as that, but I wouldn’t say the marks are extreme.

As long as it’s just scuffs and not cracked.

It’s difficult to say how the assessor might judge it.

Honestly, I’d just have a go with some trim cleaner and Elbow Grease and take a chance with the BCA inspector.

I doubt if VWFS would cost more than paying up front now for new parts. And he may let you off the hook with “Normal Wear & Tear”.

Cool. Thanks for comments. I'll do as you mention and chance it.

I was told "off the record" by our assessor just to disagree with his assessment.. never heard any more about the additional charges..

I would would say those look OK as part of normal wear and tear..

I’ve had loads of lease and company cars over the years and I’d say that’s normal wear and tear. That said I always like to return the car In the best condition possible.

One trick is carefully use a heat gun to soften the plastic and then smooth over with the back of a spoon. It’s great at getting rid of the white scratches and softening larger marks.

Does VWFS not have a guide to determining fair wear and tear?
