In need of advice

Featured Replies

I am considering a MK III, 1.5 petrol SEL, reg: 2020

Would people recommend the car? I hear there are problems with 'kangerooing' in the manual. Are the later versions any better.

Is the DSG a solid choice. Any common problems with them.

Any advice would be very much received.

Many thanks

Gone from 6 speed manual 1.6 diesel civic to 7 speed DSG on my 1.4TSI SEL and loving it. So easy and relaxed to drive. Don’t see the auto being any more problematic than the manual it’s a solid box. I’ve heard the 1.5 is less problematic with the DSG, but other may think otherwise.

I’ve just purchased that same model and year and it arrives on Saturday. It was a joy on the test drive, smooth and quick and quiet. No dropping gears or working the box to overtake on the motorway and no sign of the kangarooing. Nice spec upgrade too as it adds cruise, amundsen sat nav, proximity sensor etc

I’ve currently got a 2015 1.6 diesel though with 191k on the clock so I was coming in from that although there wasn’t a huge difference.

I’d probably have went for a 2.0 TDi if it wasn’t for the emissions regulations constantly changing.

Thanks, im testing driving one tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

been loving my 1.5 estate for the last month and a half. As others have said, super smooth and relaxing to drive, and got a fair bit more poke than my old 1.2L Mk2 Fabia :D

I left manual gearboxed cars about 15 years or so ago due to knee and hip issues and never regretted it.

Only had one start going a bit funny with me and that was a Mk2 1.8 TSi and the mechatronics started to go, but I got rid of the car before the gearbox did the dirty!

Had 4 RS's since all with DSG gearboxes and all have performed flawlessly in regard to gearbox performance, this one has just been a crock of crap with electronic (non gearbox) issues, but compared to what I've been reading on the Mk4 forum, it's been fantastic by comparison.

My advice, for what it is worth is to leave well alone the Mark iv until a few years down the line once they have ironed out all the problems.

Oh I am, I'm so disillusioned by the Mk4 and the troubles I've had with mine, that I'm thinking about jumping ship and going to BMW, Jaguar or back to VW. I've got 7 or 8 months to go before my pcp comes up, so plenty of time yet.
