Dashcam cable??

Featured Replies

Collected my vRS estate this morning and absolutely love it so far.....however.....

I bought a mini usc to usb-c cable to utilise the port in the mirror housing for my dashcam a 10" cable.

This would have been great in a left hand drive car or if they could have been bothered to swap sides for a right hand drive but it's too bl88dy short.

I don't want a 3' long cable and 10" is too short so has anyone found a cable that does the job and any links please.

Many thanks.

I’ve given up looking! Bought three different cables each purportedly 31cm or a bit longer - all too short.

I’ve resorted to tucking the supplied 90cm cable behind the mirror. Falls down occasionally so need a little cable tie is the next ‘fix’

I bought a half metre cable and just rolled up the slack behind the mirror, i don't even notice it

Try AliExpress.

Would something like this be any good?

I've seen similar cables to those, but I think straight might tuck in easier for a stealthier fit, rather than spiralling. Ta @TheWanderer though, I've not used AliExpress in ages so will give it a go

There's 1ft one on Etsy for £18.

What about this one 30cm.

There's a 40cm cable on Amazon, however it's coiled.

Yeah, I have that exact one @Jmagee so reassured by how you've got it to work. It feels like USB cables have gone up a bit in price...or am I just getting older?

I have had to run it across the housing to the camera rather than round but it's just long enough.

Wanderer the one you've listed is usb A

What connection is required C to C, C to Micro B? Kinda helpful if we know what connections are required.

Depends on the camera I guess. USB C to USB C or USB C to micro USB would say.

Depends what you need but I think everything has crept up with covid.  Angled USB c was hard to find

Don't know if am missing something on here? I thought the USB near to the rear view mirror would be very close to any dash cam.so why the so long USB cable neeeded?i thought around 6/7 inc in length would do

It’s very close in a left had drive car, but in RHD if you want the camera on the passenger side, you need a bit of a longer cable (especially since it next to bend back on itself also)

It annoys me (as someone who drives in the UK) that the wires available are all about 24-26cm, which isn't really long enough if the dashcam is over on the left. I've just used a shorter wire and have it on the right because I couldn't be bothered searching for slightly longer wires. The dashcam I have has a screensaver mode (screen switches off after 5secs of driving) so it isn't distracting and you kind of forget it's there.

Thank you ,I thought USB would be on the left hand side of the rear view mirror.

Places to look for odd cables are:

AliExpress

Wish

Ebay

Etsy

Try googling (sans quotes):

"25cm USB C to USB C"

"25cm USB C to Micro B"
