Anyone had / fixed these faults ?

Featured Replies

Should start with very happy with the car and the way it drives, plus got used now to the slow touchscreen and having to switch off lane change/stop-start/fake sound each time I use it.

At 2 months/4k miles it's going in for a couple of early issues though and was wondering if anyone else has had/fixed these :-

1. Yellow warning light come on for oil sensor faulty - running fine and oil and water temperatures are normal.

2. Annoying rattle from back when going over any bump at low speed - I've taken everything out of the boot incl. spare wheel, carpet and parcel shelf and suspect it's the tailgate best I can tell.

3. Drivers seat (manual) gradually reclines back a bit during a long trip/couple of days.

I have 2 - haven't taken all the other stuff out the boot but it's going into the dealership on Monday to be looked at (as well as a couple of software issues and seeing if they can turn off the fake sound in normal before I unplug it). I'll try taking the floor and polystyrene out over the next couple of days as well, just to check. Does sound like something's loose, almost in the region of the passenger side rear wheel...

I have 3 - glad you mentioned this as I was going to ask if anyone else had that.

Thought I was imagining things at first then made a point of seeing where the seat was relative to the B pillar and confirmed it slumps.  Will be interested in what your garage does as I think I may have to get mine in soon - aside from this I get spurious park distance control errors.

My previous cars were a Fabia and an Arona and both of their seats slowly reclined, as does the current Octavia - VAG engineering at its finest!

I have had number 1, but my car was an absolute mess by the time I rejected it and it was but one of many error messages and faults happening over a two day period.

I doubt it even was a sensor failure and more likely just the car's frazzled brain not having a clue what was going on.

Regarding number 2 - I had it too, but i fixed it. It was the spare wheel toolset that rattled. That fixing stripe which hold the toolset on the spare wheel was rattling. You need to see if plastic part (which you press to unstripe it) is not touching metal tools or it will rattle!
I spun remaining excess stripe around it and it worked, almost no more rattle (sometimes i get it in hard roads but need to wrap that item more i guess...

Not sure if you understood what I wrote but try it.

Thanks. Don’t think it will be this for me as I have no spare wheel or toolset but am going to take all the stuff out to double check!

I had the rattling, it turned out to be the hatch. They simply leveled it using those round rubber things on both sides of the hatch door and now it is fine.

Thanks all for the feedback, glad I'm not the only one who thought they were going mad with the seat!

Have taken spare wheel out as well as everything else and am trying adjusting the 2 rubber tailgate stops each trip, but no joy yet. Its booked in week after next so will post any definite fixes.

I have the rattle from the rear nearside somewhere and also noticed the seat. Was small increments but I marked with masking tape and could see it over a week or two moving

Hi all,

RE: the vRS driver's seat backrest slowly reclining back on its own, can any of you confirm you've got that problem with manual cloth seats ? Dealer are only aware of issue with some electric seats, so want to confirm there's a few doing it before I write into Skoda.

Boot rattle, they adjusted the tailgate latch today and sounds a lot better so far.

Oil sensor faulty light - had gone off and they couldn't find anything. Could someone check for me if you get a 'oil symbol warning check light' come on when you put the ignition on please ? I've noticed mine doesn't show that symbol when you put the ignition on, but not sure if it used to or not.

Mine does that, it’s not a VRS though. I had the same on a previous Arona and Fabia so I think the VAG seat adjusters are just really weak, and slowly undo under the drivers weight

Just had the oil sensor warning. 16 June they are going to look at it!!!!

Mine's a cloth seat, manual and does it, my car's a SE Technology not vRS.  Seems ok on short trips but definitely slumps after an hour or so's driving.  Hope that helps.

I had the rattle from the rear on the N/S - simple fix.

I took the parcel shelf off and no noise. I figured the parcel shelf connectors on the shelf must have become worn over time resulting in some play which caused the creaking. I put sone  electrical tape on the cylindrical tabs that the shelf snaps onto (near to rear seats) and the car is now silent! I tried doing just the N/S but that transferred the noise to the O/S so I wrapped both sides which created an equilibrium. It did creak when I opened up the rear hatch but that disappeared after a few days and now all good - completely silent. I used black tape so you can’t even see it if you take off the shelf - the tape is about the same width as the tabs. I used about 20-25cm per side.

I had 5 oil sensors replaced on my last RS (Mk3), I don't know what the hell was wrong with the damned thing, also the infotainment system & cockpit went blank, and a whole host of very irritating & irrational faults kept popping up on a regular basis.

In the end the "jury rigged" the wiring harnesses to stop the faults, but I was quite glad to get rid of it in the end. This one has had some odd faults, like parking distance and others which have come & gone with software updates. But I think this one will be dispatched early next year for something that doesn't have as much tech on it.

what doesn’t have as much tech on it these days? That’s surely going to be an issue for you? Pushbike maybe 😂
