What Dashcam won’t destroy DAB signal

Featured Replies

I just got a new Nextbase G522w front and rear kit with the Nextbase hardwire kit.

it’s truly awaful to live with. Literally noting on it works properly like the app, the Alexa function, it freezes continuously etc etc.  The picture and rear camera videos captured etc are fine though.

Nextbase tech support have been useless giving many suggestions that simply work once and then the problem reappears.

I am going to return it and have seen the Garmin 66w which is powered from a USB socket. I’m assuming that this will finally put a stop to all my dab stations being unusable.

Has anyone any experience of this in their car with DAB?

My car for reference is a 2017 Octavia SEL facelift.

Sorry about the photo quality, but this is my dash cam.  It’s the second car with DAB it’s been fitted to, it just about killed the signal in my new Lexus, but it’s perfect in my 18 reg SE L Octavia 1.4 TSI.

Not being very helpful, I know, but I can’t see any brand name on it, and I bought it in 2015.

The reason for posting is that it’s not necessarily just the camera at fault.

Thanks for this, the loos of dab isn’t strictly the camera but it’s power supply as that is what causes the interference.

I’ve tried the ferrite cores but they don’t have any real effect and the only thing that resolves it is unplugging it.

The reason I’m curious about the Garmin is that it’s powered from USB so may not cause the same interference.

I’ve had the Chinese cameras before with hardwire kit and they do the same. I was hoping for a better results from a so called top brand but unfortunately not.

Hmm I think you're being a bit unfair here.
the "so called top brand" doing the same as the chinese special would infer its a skoda/vag related interference issue not a camera build quality caused one as these devices work perfectly fine on other vehicle brands although some (mercedes for example) also suffer with dab loss because of interference from dash cams.  Its the conversion from 12v to 5v that causes the interferance waves and so the issues.

usually a couple of ferrite cores and re-routing solves the issues. The other solution which nearly always works, but is un-tidier, is to use the 12v to usb socket converter that most cameras come with, this also seems to stop the issue.

The Nextbase killed my DAB in my previous car, a BMW 5 series. However the exact same dashcam ( I removed it and installed into Skoda), works absolutely fine in my 2016 Octy.

DAB works fine and everything. Try disconnecting just the rear Nextbase as this has been known to cause interference, and see if this works.
