Usb C by mirror, can you retrofit

Featured Replies

As titled really.

I didn't notice you could option a usb c port behind your rear view mirror and I really fancy one.

Can you retrofit one or is this a factory only part?

I asked the dealer in March and they said factory fit, but it only went on the options list in January. I'm not brave enough to remove the existing cover to see if there's an existing connector for the socket to attach to.

Just received my new Octo, has a usb c port in the mirror console on the drivers side, even looks like there is the actual electrical socket behind the hole in the cover. I didn't knowingly order it, but was chuffed to see it there. It's a company car so it's not unusual to get extras not requested as I've found with my previous three Octos.

However it doesn't work.

I'm hoping that it's simply not connected up & will act all indignant when I take it in to the dealer.

I watched a video where the mirror console (two plastic halves) were removed to fit a forward camera.

This came as a camera fitted in a similar console but the camera plugged into the remaining fixed portion

with a usb plug. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iF24HiPdd5w&t=14s

Thanks for that. Very interesting. Sadly mine is very different indeed to this design, otherwise that would have been perfect, thanks.

Comes as standard the usbc is only power

Thanks. Seems that it might be a few dodgy mini USB cables and a dodgy USB c cable! Or it might be a slightly loose USB c socket. Definitely was only expecting power.

Thanks for the reply.

I'd really like to retrofit one too, they're not standard fit in Australia. I have found the trim and the usb itself but not the loom. I have also checked the worship manuals uploaded on the forum and can't find any reference to it. It's a total mystery.

Ford has a really good dealer fit dash cam that actually integrates with Sync 3, e.g. display a live feed and can be controlled.

They have a version of this that will work with our design. You want the G12 see here:
