Noise when off the gas pedal

Featured Replies

My car is Octavia vRS 2011, 147kw 2.0

Rolled my windows down and heard a noise, the best explanation would be kinda like when you drive a bike and let it roll, that slight ticking/chain rattling sound.

Same with the car,i accelerate then take my foot off the gas pedal and let the car roll on its own, then hear this noise, what might that be?

I have a 2010 VRS and have the exact same thing so would be interested to see if anyone knows what this is. I first noticed it when I was sat idle and revved the engine, after taking my foot off the gas I could hear the noise.

Okay so I asked my co worker who's into cars,he told me what this is and i managed to find the name of that part in English. It's the exhaust pipe resonator, if we have the same things it's not like super bad, but getting there so I'll change it asap, not that expensive as a part, but the work costs.

Just in case I'll add a picture of this part,if it happens to be wrong translation or something.

No problem, if I'm right, it's good since it doesn't seem to be that bad and that expensive, but that's what we should check for sure

My buddy is a mechanic and I'll be taking the car to him in a couple weeks for a service so will ask him to look into this and let you know if he finds anything different.

The part you have pictured is the flexible exhaust joint, abbr. flexi not resonator.

Thanks! Googling resonator found the same/similar pictures, but yeah you're right.

I doubt that is the noise?  I have a 2011 and have not noticed such a noise.  To me more usual suspect are things loose, heat shields, disc backing shields or the trays are not properly secured.  The metal shields commonly the fixing rusts out as well.

When RPM drops and sometimes when accelerating, you hear it the best when rpm drops

I would say its vastegate but thats just my opinion.Just go garage as soon as you can and get someone to have proper look.I was told its turbo rotor but that didnt made any sense at the time. When went to different garage and checked it out together with mechanic we discover that its just vastegate. There is good place which repairs turbos called Turboworks in Eastbourne will need to ship them your turbo tho.I found easier fix on mine there are vastegate rebuild kits called something like anti rattle kit in case if you have vastegate issue also that will save you some cash.

If its a metal buzzing noise when coming down the revs at around 2000rpm then its more than likely its actually a loose wastegate arm rod and it can be solved with the wastegate clip. No need for expensive turbo repairs just yet

That's a shame. Always worth trying the cheapest option first though

I ve seen few VRS with this problem. So that would be good advice for new buyers to check turbo
