vrs tfsi tapping noise

Featured Replies

car has started making this strange noise, only does it at idle, stops when you blip the throttle can be heard loudly in the cabin but cant hear it in the engine bay, also gets almost silent when climate is turned on , videos linked any help would be appreciated, hope its not new engine o clock!

car is 07 tfsi bwa 130k

I thought it was going to be the usual N80 evap purge valve. But not in your circumstances.  Does it happen if the engine is not running but the fan to the climate control is on or switched speed. As it is in the cabin it sounds like a blower fan fault at first listen to me.

no only does it when the engine is running and with the climate completely off, just done 200 miles today and it didnt do it at all, its defo not the n80 or any standard rattle ive had tfsi engines since 2014 so im familiar with all the standard rattles. i did change the fuel filter a few days ago as it started ****ing fuel all over the drive so i was thinking maybe a rattling fuel line from the disturbance, hard to pinpoint it when its stopped, hopefully it dont come back lol

Mmmn. that is weird. I haven't heard anything like that. Given that it stops when the climate is on, perhaps it is still linked to HVAC somehow. A stuck flap or servo.  I really doubt it is the ful line around the fuel filter. Did you screw the plastic bracket back to the floor pan or cable tie it?  Even, so, even if you did not, I doubt it would rattle like that at idle and there is virtually no extra length in the lines around the fuel filter anyway.

Have you tried a HVAC flap reset and get a full scan (VCDS or similar)  and see if any errors on the HVAC?

The same has started doing with my car, It's been some days now but it doesn't do everyday.

Once it happens to hear then maybe after 2,3,4 days can repeat it.

I surely source the noise coming from the glove box compartment area, but can't find what the _@ck is causing it.

It reduces when climate works due to the revs being a bit higher on iddle (compressor operation).

Have not connected any VCDS yet,
I assume a relay base could have start playing?

Does that area have a relay compartment to check it out if all OK in there?

i scanned mine with vcds and no engine codes but i did have a code for trouble communicating with the aircon module, but ive been away for 2 days driving allover the north and it hasnt done it so i cant really trace it at the moment, aircon is also working fine.

Yes, the same, I not able to identify yet....

But I assume it'll need some parts removing to be able to perform  some checks...

I'll scan for possible fault codes if it proves to help..

  • 4 weeks later...

Does it do it with clutch in? If so could be fly wheel or something is loose and vibrating?

Stopped doing it on the day I took the video and hasn't done it since and I've done about 2000 miles of hard driving/towing caravan. I had just changed the fuel filter on the day it started so maybe it was something to do with that.
