Best shock absorbers for 2015 Octavia

Featured Replies

I find the ride over country roads a little hard and feel the standard fit shock absorbers are the cause plus they seem to contribute to the droning i hear. Ive been in a VW Golf mk7 which doesnt appear to have this problem- can i fit the Golf shocks to my Octavia or is there someone who knows which shocks work best?

I fitted Monroe shocks to my old 15 plate. Reduced some of the noise but not much.

I wouldn’t waste your money on the golf shocks I tried them on my previous 14 plate octavia for the same reason and they had zero effect on the ride quality, ended up getting rid of the car because it was going to rattle my fillings out, I think maybe it’s the springs that are too hard rather than the shocks but I am no expert

Ive just been looking through a huge blog in VW forum regarding Golf mk7 rear shocks and the options vary but a common view is that Bilstein B4 shocks reduce noise, one person chaged to B4 and VWr springs whatever they are and reported no noise after.

I have the Scout springs at rear of my 2016 vRS and Bilstein B6 monotubes. Front suspension is stock so far.

I find this setup quieter than stock and more comfortable, not to mention increased ground clearance at rear by ~36mm and at front by about 12mm.

Basically, more rally than track setup, works much better on country roads as well as motorway.

If you have front assist radar in the lower bumper grille, it does require adjustment by about 1/2 turn upwards.

Probably even more noise could be removed wih softer shocks. but not sure about handling then.

A lot more noise is removed though by putting in acoustic insulation in the spare wheel well, as well as the spare wheel on top of it, plus rubber boot dish on top.

Plus a noticeable amount of annoying resonance from tarmac is removed by installing harmonic vibration damper from Audi A3 saloon. It screws into the 2 holes at the rear of the subframe.

Thanks for the info Diesel, i have boot noise reducing pads, spare wheel, rubber boot mat and i have a Volvo harmonic damper on the central beam and two bmw harmonic dampers on each arm so all thats left to do is find better shocks and springs- i dont fancy increasing the ride height just the comfort level and noise reduction so looks like Bilstein B4 shocks but dont know which springs to go with them yet?

Have you looked at koni special active? They are the go to at the mo for better ride and handling.

No i havent- but having just looked there doesnt appear to be any for the standard beam suspension that is fitted on my car so will carry on looking fir springs for Bilstein B4 shocks.

Yea koni special actives are spot on. Have them on my superb and it’s made a massive difference. I have them with H&R springs and the ride quality feels a lot more expensive now lol 👍🏻 The vwr springs people talk about are vw racing. Which are racingline springs and yes they are good too

So are there any springs that are standard height which are softer to go with Bilstein B4 dampers is my question now?  I notice the sport springs are lower but also "progressive" - i think its the progressive that makes the biggest difference as it will be softer to begin with going over bumps and then stiffen up- i have progressive springs on my British TR6 sports car and they massively improved the ride. I wonder if there are standard height progressive springs available- who would know this?

I've looked into this when I had my Octavia and never found anything. The progressive nature lends itself well to shorter springs as the starting rate is similar to stock then ramping up to stop you blowing through the travel.

Not the mk3 but on my mk2 VRS I had the Eibach springs and they were more comfortable than the standard springs. Also they were low but not too low to cause issues over speed humps etc.
