Traffic sign recognition

Featured Replies

I don't know whether to typify this as an issue or a situation.  I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing the same.

While driving the recognition works smooth...so smooth that if your driving in a road with another road in parallel it will read as well their speed limit  and show it in the HUD. Imagine in a highway (120Kmh) with a parallel exit with a 90kmh speed limit. It would show the 90kmh and you can imagine what happens if you're using ACC...

I don't know if there is a way to in case of mismatch use the nav info or I will need to choose whether to keep it active or to turn it off.

One example of the situation I'm picturing is in the google maps screenshot. In this case instead of the 120Kmh of the highway it will show 90kmh.

That is an interesting, important, and potentially dangerous use case which I hope Skoda/VAG are aware of. If you’re braz=be enough (and the road quiet enough) its worth trying the ACC in that scenario and reporting the result to Skoda if its a problem.

It happens to me already and yeap it did try to slow down the car but I was ready and reacted quickly. I've already share it with skoda Spain and I'm waiting for a response. Quite dangerous indeed if you're using acc, if not it's simply annoying.

I have an MY18 Superb with Columbus and Traffic sign recognition.

It is extremely good at picking up signs on side roads even if they are set back 10+ metres and at 90 degrees to your direction of travel. So I am constantly being reminded that I'm breaking a 20mph limit, even though I'm on a 40/50/60 mph road. Its far less good at seeing the small signs stuck on lamposts or if a sign is less than 99% clean.

It's often/mostly blissfully unaware of the NSL/end of restriction (black diagonal on white backgound) lit up on a smart motorway overhead gantry.

Pity anyone if TSR is linked in any way to predictive ACC or automatic speed limiting which is due to be imposed on us by the EU soon. Caravans will then no longer seem to be the enemy.

yes it is very annoying...one very dangerous situation is when driving on a highway (130 kmh speed limit) and when you reach a part of the road where there used to be a toll station (removed in the recent months/year) the data on the nav still shows speed limit 60 or 40 kmh but in practice there is not speed limit at all just regular 130kmh...very dangerous...

also it is picking up speed limits on the exit paths of highway so it can jump from 130 to 40 rather quickly.

I find this option very usefull on the regional roads where i am not that much familiar with speed limitations. On highways i usually turn off the speed adjustment.

The funny thing is that "ACC is intended primarily for use on motorways" as per our manual.I guess that we'll need to get used to where and when is the right timing to use it. I didn't try it in a traffic jam which it seems a quite ideal situation.

Thanks for the responses!

!

I tried it in a traffic jam on the highway and it works perfectly. This weekend last 50km of my highway was a mess. First full stop, then stop and go and then 30 - 60km/h with frequent braking. All this 50km I just kept my hands on the wheel and the car did the rest.

I also tried it in the city but it is to aggressive for my taste (there is style option for ACC but i didn't try anything except normal. I will try comfort mode and let you know)
