So called 'Hot Start fix' question

Featured Replies

A question for those who have been stalking this forum for a few years !

Some years ago there was a suggested VCDS fix for cars that would not start when warm as follows;

01 ENGINE

Security access 12233

Adoptions

Channel 1

Adjustment available from 0-300

And another;

01 ENGINE

Security access 12233

Adoptions

Field 5

Adjust from 32784 to 33250

I remember trying this myself on my BKC Touran in around 2014-2015, it certainly didn't fix the hot start issue which is usually battery/starter related - but from memory it slightly increased fueling around tickover, and therefore may assist my low speed running fuel starvation problems.

I tried to access these methods today to try and resolve an issue I have with my CAYC 1.6tdi, but I couldn't find the adjustments in the VCDS menus.

Is this access still possible, is it possible with CAYC? Can someone guide me? Thanks

The engine ECU for the CAYC will be running different software, so those old tweaks are unlikely to exist in the new software - those instructions use adaptation channel numbers, if the CAYC engine ECU uses the UDS protocol then adaptation channels will have names not numbers.

Yes, that's what I found.

Is there another way to make these adjustments?

I would suggest you ask on the Ross-Tech forum, they will ask for a full VCDS Auto-Scan and I would suggest you also post an adaptation channel map so they can see what adaptation channels exist in the engine ECU you have - not all engine ECUs have the same adjustments possible.

For anyone that's interested, it's possible to raise tickover via engine adaptations - the new value figure represents the figure over the standard tickover that you require - mine sounds and runs better 50rpm higher, but I'll try an extra 100rpm before I make a final decision.
