Fabia MkII S 1.2 3cyl 70 bhp Timing Chain Replacement Query

Featured Replies

Looking for some advice on the importance of replacing the timing chain on our 2010 Fabia 1.2S 70bhp 3 cyl.  It has done 55,000 miles.

I suspect my local non franchise VW/Audi specialist will quote £400 to replace the timing chain which seems a lot for a car worth £2k.

Is it worthwhile ? What are the chances of the chain breaking ?  I know it will be a write off if it does happen.

Would really appreciate some wise advice.  Thanks.

Leave it alone for the next 100k miles, but keep the oil clean and correct spec.

No problem.

Coilpacks are possibly the most vulnerable parts on these engines, so consider buying a spare, and a handheld code-reader. Keep both in the glovebox then you have a fair chance of re-mobilising yourself if you ever break down due to a failure of one.

If you're not DIY-minded and have breakdown cover, it might save a bunch of time by the side of the road if you have a spare ready to be fitted for you.
