DIY Service 1.2 HTP Petrol 04

Featured Replies

The time has come.

looking for any advice and any part numbers for a DIY service.

So far I have fitted the new Cabin and Air filter. Onto the new oil and its filter. Then the fuel filter to and spark plugs to finish off.

I'm avoiding draining the oil until I can confirm that I have the correct sump plug. The one I bought from autodoc doesn't seem to have a torx head like the posts here have suggested it has.

Here is a link for the sump plug i have, along with the other service parts;

Sump plug - 9868304 <-- i think this one is wrong as it doesnt have the torx head but it should still work?

Air filter - 8000957

Fuel filter - 963979 <-- autodoc

and this one below from amazon but i think it was the wrong one I will see when I get under.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005NFYVCU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cabin Filter - 8001131

Spark Plug - 8315423

The genuine sump plug has a 6mm hex key fitting in my experience, and only requires a replacement copper washer, not the whole thing; unless the hex recess is chewed up by prior clumsiness.

Fuel filter you're more likely to create a problem than improve things so I'd leave that alone.

You can usually pick up genuine engine air filters on ebay for £10 to save having one come all the way from Berlin, or wherever Autodoc are shipping from lately.

Agreed, even the copper washer can be reused several times if it was fitted correctly and not overtightened.

A good 6mm hex socket, and a torque wrench set to 30Nm ideally. Don't try with an allen key as you're likely to round off the hex.

Make sure to clean out the sump plug hex hole to the bottom with a small screwdriver as it often gets bunged up with muck that solidifies. Important to have it clean so the hex socket goes in fully to the bottom,  otherwise you risk rounding it off, particularly if some gorilla overtightened it. Then you are farked.

Don't touch the fuel filter unless you have running issues that indicate low fuel pressure. Never had to do one on any of our petrol fleet, most of which have done between 100k and 150k miles inc htp fabias.

Air filter from any motor factor, Eurocarparts charge £6 for a Mahle (oe) filter probably you have one not far from you. They do cabin filters and spark plugs at good prices too. Free delivery over £15

Never heard of Ridex.
