Installing vRS Suspension on an Elegance Model

Featured Replies

Hey all

I am about to attempt to change over my mk3 Elegance (2.0L TDI 150bhp manual) suspension set up and install one from a vRS. The existing set up is tired and one of the front dampers is leaking.

Apologies for the rather newbie question; I have vRS springs, dampers and rubber stops, but is there anything else I need to switch over? I'm presuming the top mount from my existing car will be compatible, but will I need to change the drop link/coupling rod too?

Thanks in advance

I'd say that for £20 the pair, new top mounts make sense.

Have you checked the front struts are the same diameter?

The other thing is the rear end as I expect you have a torsion beam rather than the independent multilink a vRS has. I'm not sure if the rear vRS springs/dampers will be transferable...

Looking at 7zap, both 2UA (standard) and 2UC (sports) use the same drop links and top mounts.

Yeah, that's a fair comment. Whilst they are out, I may as well...

Cheers.

Yeah, it's a torsion beam rear suspension, but I wasn't aware that the multilink dampers/springs wouldn't be compatible.

Irrespective, I think you are right about the diameter being an issue. Bugger;

  • The vRS dampers I have are 5Q0 413 031 FP (54.6mm)
  • The suspension code on my build sticker suggests G01, if I am reading it right, which is 49.6mm. Double bugger, with knobs on.

Thanks for the droplink and top mount confirmation, much appreciated.

Thanks for the help, all. I've now stuck the complete vRS suspension in the classifieds after my numpty error!

It might be easier to install better dampers and springs matched to your car.

got to admit I'm tempted on a set of Bilsteins and Eibachs with a mild drop.

I'd try Koni Special Actives. They are a move on from the FSD dampers. Had them on my mk1 Fabia VRS with Eibach springs and they were spot on. Very compliant over bumpy roads but firmed up under cornering and braking.

Whatever I go for now, I'll make sure they fit 🤣🤣🤣
