Karoq 4x4 spare wheel kit

Recommended Posts

Hi all

back in a Skoda after many years, just collected a 2020 karoq Sportline in race blue currently it has no spare wheel.

am I right in thinking I can get a space saver spare wheel kit? (I've seen the options from the dealers)

if so could anyone assist on best option, is it better to buy all this bits separately from the likes of TPS?

thanks in advance.

Try  thewheelshop.co.uk  based near Manchester. Thye've a huge range of options, with/without jacks and wheelbraces, I've used them for three different motors.  Top quality, all brand new and branded, and good prices.

Usual disclaimer - I've got no connection with them.

mytyres are listing an Alcar 6665 6Jx16 ET43 5/112 57.1 steel rim for the Karoq.

https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rims/details?vehicleId=1273838646642300016&rimCode=ALCAR6665

However, the 215/60R16 tyre size isn't cheap.

A cheaper option is a 205/70R15 tyre fitted to an Octavia MK3 or MK4 steel rim such as Alcar 4755 and Alcar 7755 6Jx15 ET43 5/112 57.1 which could be used as a space saver tyre fitted to the rear. The 15" rim is unlikely to clear the front brake calipers, so put the 15" spare on the rear only.

It looks like the 4x2 Karoq uses a skinny 125/70R18 space saver rather than a full size spare wheel.

I was going to ask what size the space saver wheel would be for mine, is has 19” wheel with 225/45/19 tyres so wasn’t sure which space saver would match the rolling diameter.

Standard, at least for mine, was a skinny spare.  Size is visible below.  This is for my 17” shod SE, no idea if that’s suitable for 19” rims.

But I do long hauls where skinny spare would be useless so have a full sized wheel and matching tyre, either summer or full winter.  I loose a fair chunk of boot depth but I do get a fair bit of “stuff” storage out of the way, you can never have enough stuff.  Plus wheel changed and I’m on my way, no 50mph/50 mile limits.

Works nicely for me.

Just bunged the sizes into a comp site and they are very similar.

It looks like the space saver is 125/70R18

https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kompletni-rezervni-kolo-18/p/57A601011E

125/70R18 has an outside diameter of 632.2mm

225/45R19 has an outside diameter of 685.1mm

So the 225/45R19 has an outside diameter 8.4% bigger than the space saver. The difference seems far too much as the 125/70R18 will be rotating much faster than the other three tyres.

Maybe use a 135/80R18 which has a 673.2mm outside diameter. The outside diameter of a 225/45R19 tyre is only 1.7% bigger than a 135/80R18.

https://www.mytyres.co.uk/search?sortCode=none&minPrice=&maxPrice=&season=So&width=135&profile=80&size=18&speedRating=&loadIndex=&brand=&priceCategory=recommended&isRunflat=&reinforced=&cTire=&rimProtection=&sealLayer=&noiseReduction=&businessReviews=false&clientReviewsRating=&vehicleTypes=PKW&vehicleTypes=RACE_PKW&vehicleTypes=LLKW&vehicleTypes=VINTAGE_PKW&vehicleTypes=OFF

The 135/80R18 could be fitted to the same 3.5Jx18 ET25.5 rim as the 125/70R18 tyre.

OEM part numbers for 125/70R18 space saver tyre fitted to 3.5Jx18 ET25.5 5/112 57.1 steel rim.

The standard (i.e. factory-fit) space saver  for my 2.0TSI - with 225/45 19s - is a Maxxis T125/70 R18. This is a 2021 car, new in November last year.

I had to use it the other week, too. Self-tapper in the shoulder of a tyre with only 1000 miles on it. £155 down the pan for a new one.

It's the first time I've ever used a space saver, and I hope it's the last. It got us where we were going, but I now know why they're limited to 50mph. Even driving like my aunty Wendy used to drive the handling was like a half-set Rowntree's jelly, and the ESP light was going ape most of the time.

And it looked so silly. I imagined all the people we passed were pointing and laughing, though they probably weren't really.

215/65R16 has the same outside diameter as 225/45R19, so maybe use that as a spare. It's got to be better than a 125/70R18.

Does any one happy to know part numbers for each piece of the kit?

looks like wheel can be pick up cheap enough on eBay so could just buy the other bits separately.

Indeedy.

Having nothing on that corner and a human counterbalance in the shapely shape of Mrs Phutters sitting on the diagonally opposite one would have been better.

With the 4x4 that the post is about the skinny spare is the only option that will neatly fit in the boot and even that needs the floor riser kit.

I have retro fitted this to mine but hope to never have to use it.

Hi ken

do you happen to know part numbers for the kit?

might just buy a space saver wheel from the eBay and try and buy the rest of the kit separately from TPS/Skoda.

Sorry I just went to the Skoda parts department when I collected the car and they got it for me. I went back a couple of days late to collect it.

Theoretically if you have the varioflex seats the riser kit won’t fit. It is intended for the other fixed seat option. However all you have to do is carefully cut slots out to allow access to the release handles.

I fitted this to my Scout (19" wheels) Its easy enough to do I bought the spare wheel kit from a Skoda dealer that was selling on eBay and an unused space saver wheel at the time there was plenty for sale then as it has been said you need to trim the polystyrene carrier for the wheel to fit with varioflex seats - in all it cost me a lot less than buying it all from a Skoda dealer.
