Virtual cockpit?

Featured Replies

Hi All

I find myself in the position of changing my Kodiaq.....for another Kodiaq.  (Very long boring story).

Anyway, would be interested in hearing your views on the virtual cockpit.  Personally I can't see any benefit, but then again I've never used one!

I’ve just ordered a new Kodiaq and opted for the virtual cockpit this time.

It’s way more functional than old school analog dials in front of you and is user customable to some extent.
If you Google skoda virtual cockpit, there’s loads of info and videos showing what it does and looks like.

I have analogue and I'm happy with it, but if you like to constantly change things, then a digital might suit you. Personally I feel that the more there is to fiddle with, the more distracted you get from the primary thing you should be concentrating on i.e. driving.

Having said that we recently set out to change my wifes car, with her stating that she wanted a manual gearbox and none of those infernal electrickery  gadgets I have in my Kodiaq. We came home with a MK8 VW Golf with DSG, digital dash and a bloody great computer next to it that runs everything and she's loving it !! A little confusing at first after coming from a 10 year old Suzuki Swift, but the more she uses it, the more she likes it. My point being, even if you think you don't need or want a virtual dash, you'll probably end up liking it. My hope is that they're reliable and last a decently long time.

I have the VC and I love it. I played with the various options and finally settled on the setup shown in the photos.

I have the two dials showing fuel range and gear (left) with sat nav guidance and speed (right)

In the middle I have the map display. I like having the main display in the dash centre set to 500yd resolution (it gives a good overview of the route and potential roadworks, plus view of my chosen POIs) and the VC display set to 100yd (which gives a magnified view useful for complicated junctions). It also shows lane info when leaving/switching motorways). Being right in your eyeline, it's easy to check with a quick flick of the eyes.

I had test driven a number of Kodiaqs both with and without VC, and this convinced me it was something I wanted, so it was high on my wish list.

I make use of it every day and I'm glad I have it. I have to say that now I've settled on this setup that I really like, I never change it

Correct autocorrect ;-) added comment

The VC looks great and I love my gadgets but it's not something I could justify just for a bit of a play.  I generally use google maps with Android Auto and I believe it's only the built in Sat Nav that works with the VC..   @KeithOwenget that dashcam wire tidied up.. I got my Kodiaq yesterday and will fit the dash cam when I get a chance.. I had one in my Superb which I hard wired into the fusebox..

Virtual Cockpit is a must for me, I'll never be buying a car without it. I like having the navigation map on it, and MIB3 cars like what you'd get doesn't lock you out of it when you start navigation via phone mirroring. I'm pretty sure you still can't show digital speed, range and consumption at the same time with the traditional dial setup so it's an instant no go for me.

Unless Skoda did something like Audi or the Touareg with analogue dials with a bigger screen in the middle (as shown below) then I would upgrade if you would like to see more information at a glance instead of menu-hopping.

😃

I have the VC and am glad I added it as an extra. I like having the map in the dash, just wish you could get google maps to display there. Also we like that each of us like to use a different dash display and when you choose your user profile the car changes the dash to your choice.
Worth the money in my opinion.

Thanks guys.  Some food for thought.

Atm I think I am edging to not having it as I really only use the rev counter, digital speed and google maps, but I take the recommendations on board and will do some thinking.

I love mine.

I flip through the options depending on my mood and/or the kind of journey I’m on.

I’ll be honest and say I have virtually (?) no interest in RPM or analogue speedos these days.

On 2 wheels and 4 I primarily want Speed and Gear in big bold numbers.

Everything else is secondary and is called up as I see fit.

One influencing factor for me is the constant use of an add on GPS (again 2 wheels and 4) for all the added functionality it brings to the party.

That’s what everyone that hasn’t used it says then once they get used to the added functionality...I was like that before getting my second Kodiaq

Ok finally decided not to take it.  For the benefit of anyone who is in the same position, and for what it's worth:

No doubt the VC makes the dash look more "modern".  However, my current setup (analogue with digital speed) gives me everything I need.

Speed

Gear

Cruise Control Speed

Cruise Control on/off

Outside temp

Direction/Compass (nice to have)

Trip distance (I don't use)

I use Waze, so there is no benefit to having the navigation function on the VC. If I was using the built in Sat Nav, then maybe this would have edged me to it.

Ultimately I got to the stage that I "wasn't sure" if I would prefer the VC or the existing setup, would end up configuring the VC to replicate the current setup as much as possible, and concluded that in that case I would be better off saving the £395.

Thanks for all your comments, they really did help me make the decision and hopefully will help others in the future.

Is any chance to upload themes from virtual cocpit after facelit to before facelift ?

You cannot import or export bits of the electronic infrastructure. Only activate or deactivate some of them.

But how activate or disactivate ?

VCDS, OBD11, Carista.

But in vcds where ?

Use Google, I really cannot remember, probably somewhere in instruments. You could change there to vRS etc. Not sure the facelift themes are there though.

ok found in Adaptation in Instrument and name Presetation tube. Now i have Version 3 but when change on whatever version 0, 1 2 , 4 .... A,B....F i have the same presetation. onlu version 3 is other than all other version. Summary. I can only set 2 view theme.
