Driveshaft bolts coming loose

Featured Replies

Hi i got skoda fabia 1.4 16v 2005 the problem is that the drive shaft bolts come loose after a few months i tourqed them to 50 nm plus further 45° turn but same problem plus the drive shaft is new and come with the bolts. I wanted to ask is it a good idea to add red thread lock as heard people doing this to stop the bolts coming loose

Thanks

Then that torque/angle you've quoted is wrong, that's for the nut on the outer end.

Both bolts and nut should not be re-used, according to Skoda, but these came with the driveshaft? Did that torque spec come with them too?

Yes, use threadlock.

20Nm + 180 degrees was the last spec I saw for the inner bolts if they're M8 x 48, on manual gearbox?

The last bit of the 180 seems quite brutal.

Yes manual gearbox n i try them tourqe setting 180 does sound brutal but i add some thread lock as im going to be driving on the motorway for my new business so thread lock will add extra protection and peace of mind will update in a months time so it helps other people if it holds up thank you for the help

Threadlock is always a good idea, ever since I started building engines forty years ago I always use loctite on critical fasteners, there's no reason not to.

I never done it as everywhere i looked no one mentioned it so thought it wasn't necessary but now i know it is and i think people should tell others as if these bolts come out on the motorway anything can happen. It did happen to my bro long time ago but luckily he was on local roads and coming to a stop and it just snapped no steering control or drive to get out of harms way if he was on a motorway that would be bad
