USB-C ports doesn't charge my phone

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I recently got the 2021 Karoq Edition 1.5TSI and so far I enjoy it a lot. There is just one problem and I believe it is not directly involved with the car itself. My USB-C ports doesn't charge my phone (Samsung A71). I bought a USB-C to standard USB transformer and through it charged other phones, so the ports are working. I am using my original Samsung cable to charge it.

Also, I couldn't charge using my travel adapter out of my 230V outlet on the back row. Again, it works for other phones.

Has anyone experienced something similar and how did you fix it?

Does your phone charge from a  socket at home?

Yes, it does.

If the socket charges other phones, then it suggests it is a problem with the cable or the phone (not the car)

There is not a transformer with USB-C, just a different plug size.

Try a new lead that fits your phone with USB-C plug other end of cable so don’t need an adapter, might solve problem

Maybe I didn't express myself correctly. My phone is using USB-C as well as the car, so I am using the original USB-C to USB-C cable provided by Samsung with the phone. And it is not working.

The adaptor to the old USB size is used to charge other phones which are not using USB-C and that works just fine for the other phones.

But yes, I agree that the problem is not with the car. There is some incompatibility between the car, the cable, and the phone but can't figure out what it is and how can I get around it.

Did you find what the problem was?

get a normal USB A to USB C cable and plug it into the USB socket in the centre console. That should do the trick. Mine charges the phone, no problem.

2021 models onwards only have USB-C sockets I believe

I have a samsung S21 and it charges in fast charge usb in 12v cigar lighter socket, but it stopped after a while, it did work in the regular usb slot but charge didn't increase, just stayed the same because of android auto.  It worked again another time.  I am wondering if it is because I had AC and lights on at the time.

Even tho I have USBC to USBC cable, I never actually tried charging the phone from it, thought it'd be too slow

I have my usb c phone plugged into the usb c socket and it chages very rapidly. I do it that way as I can have Google Maps any time I need it.

I have a Samsung phone that uses USB c I tried it but not with engine running perhaps it might work then 😅

I have a Samsung J3 (2017) which has a USB-micro socket for charging/data input or output. I have a short cable USB-C to USB-micro & a phone holder next to the socket. I use the phone for SatNav purposes as well as the occasional call, and the phone charges OK from the USB-C socket. This on a '23 facelift Karoq. System keeps the phone well charged - necessitated by having  to use either Waze or Google Maps as workable alternatives to the dreadful built-in SatNav.
