Running new cables through firewall from interior to engine bay

Featured Replies

For a right hand drive car, any advice (or even better, photos) of places to get through the firewall? On the driver's (right) side , I need to get 2x 1mm CAN wires through in order to connect the newly retrofitted front camera to the front radar, and on the left (passenger) side, I need to run 2x 1mm wires through to the fuse box in the engine bay, 1x from the inside fuse box, and one from the J519 BCM. I'm guessing for the 2x passenger side ones, I'll be trying to follow the existing route from interior fuse box to engine fuse box, on driver's side though?

Also any advice on protecting the wires within the engine bay (right type of protective ducting or tape?) appreciated

When I installed my subwoofer I tried to follow someone’s guide about removing the battery and feeding through behind there but I couldn’t get through so I gave up and went through the flap under the drivers footwell and the unused clutch blanking plate. Not ideal I know but it was all I could think of. Initially used plastic conduit for protection until I realised the temperatures it was exposed to from the turbo so it’s now in a length of high temperature silicone heat shielding hose from behind the battery right through into the footwell and tied to the existing similarly shielded cables that were already in that area. No issues since so maybe that’s an option? Got the hose from ebay, good for about 500 degrees Fahrenheit

there is a grommet on the n/s under the scuttle trims  its a blank grommet make a hole smaller than you need so it stays watertight or put some sealer over it

this is a picture of an Octavia but you get the idea

Hi, I found a hole with unused grommet through drivers footwell when I fed a washer hose from washer tank to new rear camera. For access I removed the front wing which was not a problem at all.
