Iphone connectivity

Featured Replies

I have an iPhone XS which I connect to my Columbus unit via SmartLink/ApplePlay to listen to podcasts and and BBC Sounds. Most of the time it works fine but occasionally, although it appears to be working (the time counter is running) there is no sound. Simply disconnecting/reconnecting the phone makes no difference and neither does disconnecting, switching off the ignition and then starting again. If I drive somewhere, stop the car, go away and return sometime later it works.

All my dealer could suggest was that I am not using a genuine Apple cable but I'm not convinced by this. Any suggestions/solutions please?

Well, convinced or not, can we assume that you've tried his suggestion?

Stupid as it sounds, no you couldn’t but now you can. I took the car out this morning and used a genuine Apple lightning cable. I selected the podcast I wanted to listen to and it worked. However, after being parked up for 20 mins I returned to the car and this time it was exactly as described before. Everything appeared to be working but there was no sound.

I paused at this point and went out to the car and this time it worked. So, it doesn’t look like it’s the cable but I’m out a lot over the next few days so will continue to try the Apple cable.

I know it's probably no consolation, but my mate has an iPhone and a Landrover Discovery 5. On occasion (generally onceva day at least) his refuses to work. The only answer is disconnect the phone, lock the vehicle, leave it for half an hour, then it'll work again. Whether it's an iPhone issue or Landrover we're not sure.

Thanks, I think you’re probably right. Almost certainly an Apple issue, not that they’ll ever admit it 😡 Similarly, browsing the internet with any browser on my iPad, for the past year or more whenever you hit the back arrow you returned to the top of the previous page and not the point you were previously viewing. Just over a week ago the error corrected itself. I wonder how.
