In the market for an 19-20 plate Octavia - trim levels?

Featured Replies

Greetings Škoda enthusiasts.

I'm currently in an '08 GS450h and have persuaded my mind to be set on an Octavia with <10k mileage, but I have some questions about trim!

I see there are different trim levels for different years, but I think those available to me with the 1.5 (ACT+DSG) engine are:

SE

SE Technology

SE Drive

SE L

My questions are as follows:

1) I need parking sensors front and rear - I have a tight garage to get into - I can't tell which trim levels have both front and rear sensors as standard?

2) Rear camera option - from my research no models have a reverse camera - it's not a deal breaker, but are there any options for this?

3) Folding mirrors - are these standard on any of the trim levels?

4) My drive is mostly motorway 63 miles/day, non motorway 3 miles/day. I always told myself never to get another diesel and feel the 1.5 engine would be a good fit for me - is this a mistake over the 1.6 diesel option?

5) Sat nav - I don't have a smart phone so don't really care about "link up" type features, but would like to have built in nav - it seems this is standard on some trims, but not sure which? Is there more than 1 option for nav on these models? Any to avoid?

I appreciate the time taken for any replies.

Doesn't look good for front parking sensors on a 2019/2020 spec 1.5. Looks like the only vehicle with them as standard was the vRS Challenge,

Hi. I see that it has been nearly 2 weeks since you posted. Have you bought a car yet?

SE

SE Technology

SE Drive

SE L

Personally I'd go for the SE L if you can manage to find one in your price bracket. Given your Daily mileage 1.5 TSI might well fit the bill.

SE Ls are quite sell spec'd. The LED headlights are fantastic, and Folding mirrors are standard. (They may well be on the SE Technology & SE Drive,

but it doesn't appear so from the old brochure brochure)?

I'm sorry but Skoda are quite stingy re: Front parking sensors. They're standard on the L&K and VRS Challenge, but for most other models you either have to spec them from new build,

or be fortunate enough inherit them on a car which did already have them spec'd from new. Retrofit can be done as is the case with the rear camera.

Happy hunting.

This thread is a bit old so my answer may be too late, but hopefully helps someone else wanting the same info.

I've just bought an Octavia Mk III 2020 SE Drive

  • No folding mirrors
  • No camera
  • No front parking sensors - only read
  • It does include SatNav though.

I got confused on the trim levels as well.  I think the SE, SE Drive and SE Technology are about the same with one or two changes.  They are fairly basic (in modern terms) so I'd go for the SE L if you want more spec, as @GordoGT said.

I have the 1.5 TSi Automatic and really like it.  Like the OP, I have stayed away from diesels, though I might have been tempted if I did more long motorway drives.

If you're interested in a reversing camera, this thread is invaluable. I fitted one and while it was a fair bit of work, it's not difficult if you buy the right camera.

Some require calibration, some are plug & play. The ones requiring calibration are still easy to fit, but setting them up is a bit more of a game. (Help is available on Briskoda to do this.)

A year older, but my 18 reg SE L came with front and rear sensors, satnav, folding mirrors, DAB radio, but no reversing camera.  However, for around £50 all-in, including buying trim removal tools, and best part of a day’s work, the camera in the brilliant link referred to above was fitted.

But it has DSG and the 1.4 TSI engine, not the 1.5.  IMO, so what?

Thanks for the replies everyone. Haven't bought a car yet, but am looking at a 2018 Estate 2.0 TDI DSG, SE-L trim.

Reversing camera would be a real plus for me, I'm currently in a Lexus GS450H which is apparently longer than the Octavia Estate, with the camera I can get right up a centimetre from the rear of the garage which makes it just about fit! So I will definitely look at retrofitting one.

I'm fairly savvy with computers/software etc - for the Lexus a special OBD adapter was required with a dodgy copy of Techstream in order to change some parameters. Is there such software available for Skodas?

If you buy the right camera, it is literally plug and play.

The thread I linked to details what's needed to install both the plug-and-play and also the OEM type cameras, which need some setting-up and calibration.

For anyone interested, I went for a 2018 Hatchback in SE-L trim.

I saw the Black estate, the sales guy was using it as a company car, it had around 5 dents and a massive scuff, walked away immediately after seeing it. Shame on you HPL MOTORS OLDHAM, that car should never have been advertised for sale until all the issues were sorted!

Thanks to everyone for their help and guidance so far. I am going to wait and see how I get on without the rear camera, the rear sensors do give a good indication of distance and I've managed to get it in the garage with no issues...time will tell
