DVD/Tv etc Amundsen

Featured Replies

Hi everyone I'm new here and excuse me if this has been covered.

Could someone guide me how to jig my Superb Mk3 Amundsen 6.5inch to play dvd,tv etc. I have an Android phone so any hacks, cables please let me know.

Also is a straight forward cable from my phone to just use the screen going to work?! Going/driving through Europe soon and will have long journeys so would be nice for my daughter to watch something. Please message me pass on any links bare in mind I'm not very technically savvy but will pick up quickly.lol

Welcome!

If it were me, I would be to buy her a portable DVD player, sit her in the rear seat, and avoid all the legal grey areas about a TV in the eyeline of the driver, let alone the potential danger of driver distraction.

Edit: on re-read, that sounds a bit heavy, sorry!

Do you have Netflix or prime or similar? Get her an Amazon tablet. They are by far cheapest way to get a screen in front of the kids. Obviously comes with loads of warning about screen time etc. Most streaming services have the ability to download so no need to stress your data.

I appreciate the advice thanks, however it's not what I'm asking about. Anyone that knows how to do it please get in touch with pm if it's nit appropriate here.

There was a solution, but it involves downgradind android auto, installing 3rd party apps, that support youtube, and others that support screen mirroring as well.. If you have an android phone its doable, not easy like 1,2,3 but its doable! No extra cables needed, as long as you have android auto working at the moment, you are all set up!

Ok so the Android Auto is an app I need to download!? Or is it an app already existing on the car and I need to link with it!?? If it's on the phone I'll download it then link to what on the car lol sorry if I'm asking too many questions. BTW I won't be using it while driving. I spend a lot of tine waiting in car for different reasons so it's beneficial for me too.

Android auto is an app that comes installed on newer android phones, as long as you have an android phone newer then 2017 you should be fine, the trick there is that android auto had many features in the start that were later prohibited, hence the need to downgrade, im at work atm so dont have my laptop but i do have a link to a guide at home, on my laptopt, that will help you with that. Once you prepare your phone, and install all the apps you need, there is nothing to do in the car, but, the car should be android auto equipped, you can check by connecting your phone to the usb in the ashtray, then on the radio open android auto, and see if you can get google maps, and various other phone apps on your radio.

Great I look forward to that guide..thanks 🙏

Ill get to it later tonight, as i wont be home that early, on a side note, do please try to connect your phone to the car as is, and see if you can get android auto working, thats a prerisquite to everything else!

As above, the first thing is to see if your car and phone support Android Auto:

Once you've confirmed that, you'll probably need to root your phone and install one of the various AA apps to allow video streaming. How to root will depend on your phone, be warned, there is a risk of losing all your data, security concerns and even the possibly of bricking the phone.

XDA is a good place to start, they have sperate sub-forums for most common phone models with rooting guides and there are a few AA streaming options here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/android-auto-general.3834/

There is also a video guide to downgrade AA here:

Personally, I wouldn't want to be rooting my phone or running old apps but that's my view so it may not match yours.

Obviously it's your choice but if you have an older, unused phone, I'd be tempted to use that when you want video streaming rather than your main phone :)

I can find another phone but would have to run a hot spot to use internet fir streaming etc. Is there a way without rooting!? Using Bluetooth!?

Bluetooth won't help...

Most of the AA apps on XDA suggest they need root, maybe take a look at AAAD on XDA as that doesn't seem to need root although it may require an out-of-date AA version.

This isn't something I've done nor intend to try, the links/videos are to give you a starting point and set you off in the right general direction :)

There is a workaround to be able to have AA and not to root! You need to force stop AA on your phone, disable it, uninstall all updates, get the APK from the forums, install that version of AA, then you can have cartube, and other apps!

Sorry, and not wishing to be confrontational, but doesn’t this sort of clash with your first post - where you say you want your daughter to be entertained on long journeys?  So it seems it will be used while you’re driving.

What’s that old saying?  The road to Hell is paved with good intentions?

It doesn't I'm simply addin/saying that I will benefit too while I'm waiting in the car. As for my daughter she can watch her animation dvd on the move..I'm ok with that.

The saying is I believe

"If you looking for something you will find it" ei you are looking for something to pin on me rather then actually trying to help me.

If you don't want to help its ok stay away don't hover around the forum pretending to be helping when all you want to do is get in confrontation. Thank you for your time, but next time spend wisely.

Re the above, I’m afraid I don’t have your apparent resolve not to risk being distracted by a film showing on the infotainment screen while driving.  I believe there is a reason - safety - why car manufacturers set things up so that entertainment is only available while the vehicle is stationary.

However, as requested, I will now bow out of this thread, but possibly on other matters Skoda, my first word in the thread can be revisited.

Regards

Malcolm

It is perfectly doable with earphones ie no sound distraction for me. As for my eyes they won't be watching silly Disney stuff they will be on the road.

Regards

Not sure you can use headphones with Android auto.

Can we ask why you are so determined to use the screen in the car? Will your daughter be sat in the front? Just seems like a lot of effort to go through to watch a movie and interested in your motivation.

Yes she is 14 sits in the front and yes she loves Disney. Like I said the rest of the time while I'm sat waiting in the car like I have been through covid while she is training would be perfect.
