Boot unlocks its self after 10 secs

Featured Replies

I have had this problem on our last 2 Mk2 Fabia's.

Our 2014 SE, unlocks the boot after about 10 sec's and sets the alarm off, which I have had to disarm.

I have checked all the wiring, can see no problems, removed and cleaned all the connection points, no signs of any water getting in which now is s common problem.

Can anyone suggest anything please?

could this not be a sticky "Push" switch..... ?? on either the boot itself OR the remote fob....

Do you mean the boot "Popper" switch?  I had issues with mine years ago, whereby I sprayed it or lubed it, thinking I was doing good routine maintenance, only for the unit to then develop a fault. (The ol' "Machine gun, pop-pop-pop-pop) prior to actually opening up...

On speaking to the main dealer, they said you should NOT use anything on the mechanism, apart from just wiping it clean as they are very sensitive and my fault was the likely outcome. I had to replace the unit at around £30 a (A'hm) pop! Never been an issue again. It might be worth trying out another switch but unlocking sounds odd.

Does your model also have the boot opener on the inside of the front door? Some models had this and as water/damp sometimes causes issues with the window switches, it might also do to that one! (Mine does nor have this button).

As UrbanPanzer mentioned a sticky on the remote, if you have two remotes, try the other one, keeping the car well away from the one you usually use, first.

This will isolate the first key, preventing it from being able to accidentally set off the pop function.

I Just had an additional thought... Check there is no safety override doing this as in say, the case of accidents, the boot may be unlocked by the ECU, for access in an emergency. I think auto-locking doors have this sort of override. You might find a known feature has become a fault! Just a thought there!

Just looked at a Ford -based forum and they get this issue quite a lot. Mostly, it seems to be due to water ingress on their cars and drying out the connecters, WD40, etc and/or filling the connectors with grease suitable for electrical plugs helps... (Not on the pop though, as mentioned earlier). If too far gone, a new pop is needed.

So, check the electrical contacts that feed the boot unit, check the wires at the tailgate hinge for damage, too. Look for any worn/damaged wires and any sign of corrosion. After that, its just elimination!

Thanks for the comment.  I have checked the boot release handle and that is fine, the lock works well.  Its just when you lock the car with the remote, after about 10 secs the book lock unlock its self.

Thanks for your comments, I have never oiled the lock, and the boot is only opened by the remote key fob.  I have checked for water ingress and can see no signs of this.   The boot release handle appears to work fine.

do you have 2 remote fobs ?

If so lock it with the remote you DON'T normally use and see what happens................As I menetioned could be a sticky button on the fob itself ??

I did mention trying the other remote as you never know!

My daughter's FII had some strange central locking behaviour recently. The car would just lock and unlock at will.

This wasrelated to the passenger  lock. One of the microswitches started to have a life of its own. I took the lock apart and changed the switches arouns. Might be worth looking at the boot lock's inners.

I left a thread further down.

The other key is not a remote fob, just a basic key.

Might still be worth using that and see if you get the issue still... If the other key is a proper one and not just a valet key, that is.

If it starts and runs the engine, its a real key as a valet key will only open the car up. Might disengage the steering lock but won't start the car.
