Just wondered if any were going cheap from the dealers

Have you looked at the spec, not enough power to charge at 170mA, and thats at full power (with US Sun)

you would be lucky to light a torch bulb with that power

It's a trickle charger, perfectly good for it's intended purpose ;)

I bet the clock will take more power than the panel will give!

Just after one to keep a battery charged on a vintage tractor :P ....saw these and wondered if it is only the USA that get them...most 1.5 watt ones will do the job but there are a few other makers panels that do 5 watts

That's no way to talk about the Superb :P:rofl:

To test the viability, I took a fold-up 12v unit, measuring 9 square feet, for which I paid

Looking at the previous posts above, the first unit I referred to was similar to the Solar briefcase, with 13w output, listed under battery chargers on the Sunshine Solar site, whilst the second was similar in design and size to the Maplin unit.

Maybe the first unit had a fault.

I'll be getting it out the loft in the next couple of weeks and will test it for output. Seem to recall, that when originally tested output on multimeter seemed OK. Whilst the spec seemed OK, it just didn't perform for real.

So for this year's hols, to subvert Sir Alan's nostrum, it will probably be - "You're a heavyweight, you're fired"?
