Infotainment system re-booting.

Featured Replies

I know I've read something on here but I can't find it now. I had to go to our local hospital yesterday (about 6 miles) and on both journeys there and back, after a couple of miles the radio cut out, I heard a fairly high pitched buzzing and the system then re-booted. Perhaps I shouldn't anticipate things but I can just hear it now, "No, we've never heard of that before" but I'm sure it's not uncommon. The car has not had a system update and I know there is a software update out for it so 'cross fingers' that might solve it. I took delivery late December 2019 by the way.

I haven't tried this in my Kamiq, but in my previous Kodiaq with a Columbus system it was possible to reboot it by keeping your finger on the on/off icon until it bleeps.

I had a similar problem to yours when I first had the Kodiaq. The dealer said they checked for loose connections (none found) and rebooted the system.  I didn't have a recurrence after that.

During the lockdown I caused a warning light to come on which I couldn't extinguish. It was suggested that rebooting the infotainment more than once in succession might work,  so I tried it and after three reboots the light went out.

Someone on the forum scoffed at this and virtually called me a liar,  but it really did work, as did turning the ignition on and off on a previous car 3 times to extinguish a warning light.

Not saying  this will work for you, it doesn't cure all ills, but it's an easy thing to do, so worth trying before you go to your dealer.

Thanks but I know for a fact that the car needs a software update so it needs to go in and it's also ready for a clean

Join the club, it seems that this is a common fault! My system shuts down on a regular basis.

If the radio is on , I get a high pitched noise, everything freezes- I can't switch if off. After a few moments the whole system shuts down and then starts up again tuned in to a different radio station. It happens when I'm using any function, including Android Auto. It now happens about every 20 mins or so.

I've taken it to the dealer, who can't resolve the issue but suggest a major system upgrade is on the way.

I've tried to contact Skoda customer services, and there is a major operating system update, Contact your dealer and book it in. This will be the second update in the last two months, let's hope this one works better than the first.

On top of this my Internet connected services plan [Skoda Connect] has ended, and Skoda want £80 [Not worth it my my view, even if it worked] for another year's access to a system that does not work, so far and surprisingly I've resisted the temptation to renew

I'm with you on that, I never even bothered to go in to the dealers to get the extra options during the first year. Skoda Connect must be of value to some people but I'm most certainly not one of them.

Well that was a waste of a morning. The system re-booted once on the way to the dealership. Once the car was in the workshop, I was asked whether the battery had been disconnected or gone flat at all. The answer to that was never disconnected but it had gone flat once last year when I forgot to unplug my dashcam. I now keep the maintenance charger plugged in when the car is in my garage.

After two hours I was told that all errors had been cleared and it should be OK now. I got 2/3rds of the way home and the system re-booted again

No help to you I guess, but my Kodiaq battery went flat twice last year and it didn't affect anything afterwards. Like you, I used a trickle charger after that.

Did the garage check for loose connections ? It wouldn't do any harm to try the infotainment reboot I suggested a few times - what have you got to lose ?

Had to go out today so before I set off, I re-booted the system 3 times one ofter the other. I'm touching wood as I say 'It worked'. It hasn't re-booted again whilst I was driving :thumbup:

Moving on to the next problem, when I got home I sat for about ten minutes in the car going through every menu option I could find and for the life of me I cannot get the car's total mileage to display. Trip display/reset is no problem but for the moment, if I'm asked how many miles the car has done -I can only guess! Must be me I'm sure.

Well fingers etc crossed that the reboot continues to work. People forget that often the fix isn't as complicated as first thought and always try the simple things first. Half the time an IT person is summoned, the first thing they'll try is a simple reboot - easy money sometimes.

Now the answer to your second question and you'll owe me a pint after this cos it will work. Go to your car and switch the ignition on, let the screen light up and then turn the ignition off again. When you do this your total mileage will appear at the bottom right of the digital dash screen.

I'm surprised it's not also in the infotainment screen data as well, but if it is , I've failed to find it.

OK, I knew I'd seen it somewhere before and can't imagine why I didn't realise that you can only see the mileage when the engine's not running . I now know the car has done 2,097 miles.

Turn ACC off by pushing the wand fully away from you and your total mileage will magically appear.

Nice find. Not quite the same in my case where the off switch for cruise control is on top of the stalk but nevertheless switching it off does make the current total mileage appear

Is the same with VW for at least the last 10 years

I've been having repeated problems with mine too. Mainly have the eSIM connection drop including the SOS function which seems to be a known issue with 2020 cars, but I've also had the whole thing restart a couple of times now. The first oil change service is coming up soon so I'm going to get them to look at it then.

On my digital dash I get the mileage at the bottom of the view under the line when the car is on even with the engine on.

This is a pic from the dealer when I bought mine. The 351 is the total mileage.

Yes and if you turn ACC on it will change to the ACC icon which is perfectly normal across the VAG range

I don't have ACC. It's not standard in the UK and and it wasn't on my priority list for extras!

And honestly I don't use the standard cruise control either as I've got a manual, so it's not really that useful for me even on the motorway, but I guess it's the same for that too.

Odd decision for a Digital Dash as it's not like there isn't enough room to have both on at the same time!

Same here but for me mileage is only displayed when cruise control is switched to "off" on the stalk. I've never taken much note of or used trip counters being more interested in the actual mileage. I think it may come from having spent most of my working life driving and having to fill in a log book at the start & end of each shift including the mileages. Just personal preference really.

I don't drive much now but in the recent past I did make some use of cruise control. It will stay switched off now but it seems an odd choice to have to make.

Purely out of interest, is your screen still behaving itself ?

Sorry, I hadn't considered that. Fingers crossed for a trouble free future 🤞

My Octavia needs a soft reset (holding power button for 5 seconds) about twice a month. Makes me nervous about upgrading to 9.2” screen with no physical buttons. As I lease my cars the circa £1000 upgrade cost is a minor point too.

For the price of a 9.2” screen with nav I can almost get adaptive cruise, front sensors and a rear camera. May not look as flash in the showroom, but as the 8” screen has wireless CarPlay, I think I’ll stick with the 8” screen.

My need to reboot seems oddly location specific.

I've just recently returned from a trip from Manchester to Southampton and back and not once during the trip did I have a problem with the Infotainment or connected services. All the connected services with worked as did wireless Android Auto.

Today doing a short trip at home I have again had the SOS warning, the connected services fall offline and the Infotainment refuse to get past the profile loading screen.

Mine has started rebooting too.

Roughly every 20/25 mins. Got the high pitched buzz too as radio was on. Will try the manual reboot tomorrow.

Phoned my dealer service department and they claim never to have been made aware of this issue. Anyway booked in on 29th September. They said there may be software update so can I leave the car for the day !

Will just have to wait and see.

Kamiq 1.5 SEL. just over a year old now.
