Spare tyre for 2014 Mk2 105BHP TDI 195/55/15 - will a full size and jack fit?

Recommended Posts

Hello

Stupid question perhaps but having suffered a blowout a week or so ago and having to wait hours for recovery it got me thinking that maybe I should get around to sourcing a spare tyre. I initial thoughts were for a spacesaver tyre but now I am wondering if I shouldn't just get a full size and be totally safe to continue at full speed. My only questions are whether there is enough space in the tyre well for a full size and jack (and compressor ideally) AND what size spare should I be looking for given that I have the above on alloys? If the latter sounds like a daft question then forgive me, I know very little about cars so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Thanks to all in advance.

Regards

Any fabia wheel should fit in the spare wheel well. I've had one my 205/40 R17 wheels in there to check before and it fit. I've had one of my mk1 vRS spyders in there as a spare too, no problems. I use the small spare wheel kit my mk1 came with in conjunction with the 16 inch Spyder when i'm on a roadtrip. Ideally you would hope to find an Identical alloy as a spare, but it doesnt really matter for a spare so long as its near enough the same size. Why not take one of your wheels off and try them in the spare wheel well and see if it fits? I'll bet it will.

OK, the tyre size is literally written on the side of the tyres: It will be something like 205/55 R 16 84V (probably not that exact string but the format is correct). Similarly, if you have a standard Skoda alloy, the size will be case into the wheel; say 6.5x16ET42 5x112. The ET number and bolt fitting, 5x115, are important to get right to have a wheel that fits.

Someone else will know the exact fitment if you give them the model details.

Any wheel / tyre of the correct size for the car goes in the spare tyre well and so will the tools.

If the wheel / tyre does not match exactly the one on the same axle then treat as a emergency spare and slow down. Even if there is no warning sticker.

Steel wheel spare as supplied with our new Fabia mk2 with alloy wheels was a 185/55/15 no special wheels nuts needed, fis into boot recess you might just have to make a wing nut bolt just to stop wheel moving around and rattling as ours came with a large plastic top spinner bolt and jack carrier wheel fits in upside down

Thanks for the really helpful replies everyone. I will go and source a full size in that case and get a jack whilst I am at it.

Brilliant help from everyone, I am really grateful.

Thanks in particular for this, really reassuring and shows it can be done.
