Hello All.

I  have a problem and  I am asking for help, and hoping to find someone who can help me with the following:

I am about to get a 2020/21 Octavia with almost every single item added to it with the exception of one of the things I use on a daily basis which is Travel assist.

I think the car is a 21 model VRN is GU21 EZX, and i see no reason not to post the reg number as sure you are all nice people........

A brief over view of what the car has got makes me question why travel assist is not included, bearing in mind there is a travel assist icon on the steering wheel top right button..

So, the car has:

Matrix LED headlights with AFS

Head up display

rear view camera

electric boot

digital cockpit,

heated seats

heated rear seats..

Errrr um, yeah cant remember the rest of the spec but basically someone has taken the options list and gone bonkers, but (the button is there) although no travel assist.. so i wondered if it could be coded in on a latest Octavia.

I am not trying to blag anything for free, if anyone decides they want to or can help me i am more than happy to pay them for whatever they end up doing.

Got tons of free time too so happy to travel to wherever help might be available.

I have no technical skills at all and dont want to balls anything up so this is a massive plea for some help.

I should also explain that the feature of travel assist i wanted the most and the thing thats missing is the function that allows the car to stay in lane and allows you also to take hands off the wheel for up to 15 seconds during which time the car will not crash and kill me. I do tend to drive long distances and tend to tense up, and having this function/feature allows me to relax a little bit more.

I should also explain that this was typed up on a phone screen with very very tiny text so there might be text errors or grammatical errors which maybe shouldnt happen but probably has.

I really hope someone takes time out to at least read this, and even better if i get a reply.

Regards.

Mark

As far as I know all Octavia Mk4 models come with the Lane Assist (warning if departing from the lane and will nudge the steering to take a shallow curve - as well as vibrate the wheel and bleep if need be).

Hi Mark. How do you know there is no travel assist included? Did you have chance to drive and check the car? It would be really strange if car is fully optioned and missing only the travel assist.

About the coding...currently coding of the new Octavia is very limited since almost all modules are secured and you need a SFD token to access them. You can read more here

and here

I hope someone will be able to be a bit more helpful than I.

Lane Assist and Travel Assist are not the same thing. Travel Assist uses lane assist and ACC to keep the car in the middle of the road. The basic lane assist doesn't do that.

And in some markets, e.g. Australia, Travel Assist in not offered. My car has everything you can get but there is no Travel Assist. The Lane Assist stuff gives you a nudge of you stray across the lane markings but it won't automatically steer you down the middle of the lane.

The button on the wheel brings up the menu for all assistance systems - not specifically Travel Assist.

Thanks. That’s useful to know the difference.

AFAIK the feature is called Travel Assist LOW, which enables ACC and Lane Assist to work on speeds below 60km/h.

If you have DSG it means that during traffic jams or slow riding condition, the car will stop if necessary and continue to drive if car in front also starts moving. Without Travel Assist LOW if you have ACC and drive above 60km/h everything should work as you described.

Regarding additional coding I’m not sure but in theory it should be possible. Older model required specific auto hold module for this feature to work but if I’m not mistaken all MK IV are equipped with auto hold function.

I really wouldn't do that. We are not there yet. The more I read this forum the more I feel we are beta testing these cars for Skoda.

I never had any issues with Lane Assist but my car is LHD version, I guess VW tests LHD cars with more attention, after all EU market is much bigger than UK. I disabled wheel vibration in the infotainment and using VCDS configured to remember last settings.

It even doesn't make any mistakes when there is road work on the highway and white lanes change to yellow but I have traffic sign recognition maybe that is also part of whole package.

Thank you all for taking time to reply to my request for help.

So, here we go, the saga continues.

The car does absolutely definitely NOT have travel assist.

The button is there  but it does bugger all. The sales guy (CHRIS) who sold me the car said that it does definitely have travel assist, but then discovered the reason for the error... HE WAS LYING THROUGH HIS TEETH!!!

He even had the cheek to tell me he knew it was a feature of the car because he had used it in the car on his holiday to Cornwall. I am very interested in how he could use a function that doesnt exist, so I went to his big boss and also made an official complaint to Skoda UK, and it turns out that he told his boss and Skoda UK that he thought I meant just standard lane assist, even though I have a recording of him telling me it does have fully functioning Travel  Assist, and yes i do know what I am talking about says he. ALL of the calls I made to  Birchwood Skoda I recorded so have plenty of evidence he is a liar. Based on the absolutely huge spec on this car I took it anyway, and am due to collect on Wednesday, though I have a sneaky suspicion dealerships do read forums.......

A logically minded person would now be asking why I still took the car, and the answer is for 2 reasons:

1. I don't think I am ever going to see a car with such huge spec as this car has, and also I am (according to Skoda UK) very very unlikely to find another car with the same or nearly the same spec WITH Travel Assist, and a new car is out as the order times have now skipped back to up to 38 weeks due to a semiconductor/shortage or something, and then told me there is a huge backlog of part built cars that are complete except for the electronics components that require some sort of semiconductor technology.

2. I have some strange idea that I might be able to get the function that is missing through coding via help I have gained from all of your replies on here,BUT i'm pretty certain this wont happen over night.

Apologies for the lengthy nature of the replies, but once I started it all just sort of had to be said.

Can I ask where you got your information from regarding 38 weeks.i ask because I don't think I have read or been told this is the case.

Hello Joss.

The information I gave is correct, and has been given to me by Skoda UK on an online  chat I  had with them. However subsequent conversations with another 2 dealers seems to back up what I was told although the information I  gave was a worst case scenario and one of the dealers I spoke to seems to think this was a little pessimistic and realistically was 25 to 30 weeks.

Hm.... it would be very strange that there is Travel Assist button on the wheel but the feature is not there. Make a photo of "Menu" - > "Assist Systems" > "List". Maybe it is just disabled.
