Drought in the South...will you cope?

Featured Replies

The water companies need to start drawing more water from the north. Up here we are full and in Scotland there is too much!! Privatisation has meant that the water areas are working alone and not together like they once were. I am sure this is the root of the problem. You are right that the shareholders demand their divvi. I blame the governments NOT the companies for this

Slow down !!

Not so, it has certainly been raining - never seems to stop these days - but I went ofr a walk round a reservoir near Edinburgh the other week and the levels are down on what they should be. There was a good 20ft gap between the surface of the water and the mark around the edges where it normally would be.

Also don't forget that Scottish water has not bene privatised and all reports have shown we have among the most expensive water in Europe because they are so inefficient.

One thing lots of people dont realise though when they talk about leaks is thatthe Government in England has put through a new law (The TRaffic Management Act) to put more hurdles in the way of utilities digging up the roads. So when you need to dig the road up to install or repair pipes or cables, you need to apply for permits and permissions, you're supposed to wait until another utility needs to dig too, and basically the aim is to ensure the road is not dug up so that cars can continue to use the road.

Sorry for the slight rant but I work for a broadband provider and we fought the govt on this one and pointed out that you can't get faster broadband, less leaks etc etc without some disruption, but they weren't interested. Not trying to stick uo for water companies but it aint just as simple as it seems
