Off side rear door won’t open nor will window

Featured Replies

So hi everyone been a while but you see my car was sitting for a while due to the pandemic however started up fine the doors were a little stiff but anyway all doors worked fine however I did notice the rear door was a bit jerky from sitting but anyways it opened fine and closed but my mother came out to see the car then slammed the door now a couple days later I tried to open it and it won’t open from inside or outside then I tried the window from driver door and the rear window button itself won’t open when it used to a matter of days ago. Now I have taken off the door card. I have rang a couple places i also checked the door wiring loom under the rubber hose gasket in the door jam but it looks ok I think might give the plug a spray with electrical connector cleaner. That’s what fixed my faulty airbag sensor. Lastly I need I have rang places and they have said lock module, lock shattered or wiring problem. Given the fact the window won’t open I believe it to be wiring however surely if the lock module is broken and the car thinks the door is locked then the window wouldn’t work anyways right? Got a garage but he said lock module could be expensive however I found them cheap and it’s a Skoda meaning prices and replacements aren’t that much. Please would like to hear suggestion before I go to the garage. I have done a lot of work on my car and sure I can handle this if I could be given advice on what to fix. All other doors work fine.

can you get a multimeter in there to check the wiring properly? id say thats your issue tbh... esp as it stopped working after the door was slammed shut.

Try reverse damage by banging on the door from inside and pressing the unlock button on the centre console, I was going to say window down button also but that might end badly.  It's a long shot but if it works at least you'll get the door open to access the wiring/connectors.

Almost certainly the door wiring, given that neither the window nor the lock solenoid works.

I took into a garage and they said it was the locking mechanism and they can’t access it as if they try the window will smash as it is connected to a regulator so they have to drill a hole and try and unlock then they told me the part is £170 and then labour is like £100 however I know Skoda is obviously VW owned meaning parts are generally cheap and I searched and the locking mechanism I believe is £30

feck that shower of chancers!

an entire replacement window regulator (the panel they are talking about) can be got for about 40-50quid. i only got one a few months back for my octy as the cable had snapped. and a lock mech is only 30odd quid for a perfecrly fine ebay chinese special.

they are hoping to either put you off or make up the profit on the job as it is very awkward to get into the door when its locked shut

i still reckon you have a wiring problem above anything else. most likely a frayed or snapped negative wire in the door bellows...

edit... 3rd option for the garage - they dont really know what they are doing, if they are saying the window will smash trying to get in passed the regulator...

Hint - The garage owner's wallet is connected to the repair bill, just like your's is. My wallet isn't. Who can give you disinterested advice, garage, or guy on interweb?

Ofcourse I agree I have done loads on my car but with this as long as I know the problem I can give it a shot as I have my lot in 3 weeks and need it open. This is the invoice they left. So how would I go about finding the wire as I locked and sprayed the plug in door hinge.

Hello please help

Is it possible to access the door wiring from within the passenger compartment?

My theory being you could jiggle the wiring as close to the bellows whilst simultaneously trying to unlock the door.

Perhaps it would make contact just at the right moment, unlock the door and allow for repair.

Can also access the wiring in the door jam but I have sprayed it and cleaned it and plugged it back in and it didn’t work

At least you have some access but I meant from the door pillar side which would mean removing some plastic trim.

Given that all electrical functions in the door don't work It might be a possibility that the earth wire is at fault.

Test the wires at the connector for voltage when the unlock doors/CLOSE window buttons are operated and check for earth continuity *.

DO NOT attempt to open the window , it could fail to close afterwards.

My theory is a broken earth could be temporarily patched by wring into the connector, door opened and faulty wire replaced.

* The brown wire(s) are all earth.

Ok yeah I know the brown is earth and I had a problem with this on my rear lights just needed the wiring fixing. I don’t have a voltage meter wire tester and I tried the window button it doesn’t work. I can try removing the door pillar panel. But I got my earth wire on my lights fixed for £20 so I could try ringing a place a auto electrician.

Why not? You can get a suitable multimeter for about £15.

Not sure what good this done taking the pillar off but here we go

It looks like you have found the bad earth wire.

Where abouts what picture as I know it’s the brown thick one but looks fine to me point it out if you can thank you so much

Are you sure the brown in the last photo is good?

It looks kinked which suggests the conductors are severed.

Hi so I took it to auto electrician and pointed out the ‘kinked’ wire and it was not enough of a kink to cause damage and I thought that when I looked as I have had worse wires that worked still. They tested it and managed to open the door unlike the other ones and they told me it was just the motor needs changing and it’s plug and play meaning take it out out new one in.

Right so my car was sitting for a while and then when I have been driving it for about 2 months again the aircon still isn’t working the dials turns and the temperature gauge changes but no air coming out but the air does feel cold if I put my hand right on the vent. I have searched and it could be just a blocked and dirty cabin filter under the glove box as the car was sitting for at least 8 months. Is this accurate compared to a full regas. Also don’t they change the cabin filter in a full service as I am about to have one soon. Lastly my breaks the abs brake light and esc light is on. The brake disc light also comes on this started happening before I stopped driving the car which I believe to be just changing the pads or faulty Skoda sensors. But these are the codes that came up.

00290  -035    Can bus 01/01

00833  -048    Can bus 01/01

01501  -044    Cab bus 01/06

Could be. Also, if you have real buttons and not a touch screen, try 10 minutes of flapperobics. This is actually free bar your time, then the pollen filter is cheaper than a regas by an aircon company, then you have a regas by a Skoda main stealer if you feel like wasting money.

ABS is most likely one of the strip fuses on the battery box or else a sensor. 10 minutes of your time to check the fuses, and then read the codes to find out which corner the railed sensor (or wiring) is on.

Ok I retro fitted a Columbus screen but other than that it’s all buttons I think I will take out the filter then clean it as it’s definitely due to the car sitting for a year. As for the abs are you saying to check the fuse box for a blown abs fuse cheers
