Is it possible to put a dump valve on a vRS?

Featured Replies

I take it as the car has a turbo this can be done?? I've seen (or heard) a lot of petrol turbo cars about but was wondering if it could be done on a chugga-lugga......the only problem is that it might end up sounding like a bus or a lorry!

lol. Did you just write a lexus thread too ?

You like your boy racer crap i see :D

The doctor will sort you out for £300 i think http://www.thedervdoctor.co.uk/

You should of got a Starlet Turbo mate.

Saved yourself a lot of £k, have a dump valve, and bags and bags of fun.

I'm just 22 so am having some fun whilst I still can!! I nearly bout the new face lifted Fiesta ST but the torque of the furby was what did it for me and I'm looking to get the fun factor into the Skoda that the ST had!!

Indeed I did write the lexus lights thread - no worries though, the standards are sitting nicely back on the car!

It's possible to have one fitted but it's electronically operated so you pay a premium for it with no gain in performance. Waste of money imho (plus it'll make it sound like a bus/lorry ;)), but the world would be boring without variety!

as chris said it is possible but doesn't gain much apart from the noise as diesel do not work the same as a petrol car.

It is your choice as to what you do with your car and with your money!

it seems this has been asked before - i have just found this comment

"

I don't think the TDi engine can have a dump valve (correct me if I'm wrong). The turbo the TDi PD engine uses has a variable-vane geomtery fan.

When an ordinary turbo's used as much exhaust as it can, it dumps the rest of it via the DV, but with the TDi PD's turbo, it alters the angle of the fan blades to make the most out of whatever gas is in the turbo at the time...

So, not only does it not need a DV, the turbo's a sealed unit, so it CAN'T have one..."

If I find out otherwise, I'll let you know!

It can have an electronically operated (rather than vacuum operated?) one though, as per the Derv Doctor links.......... :D

case closed (from a vdub pd thread)..............

"Dump valve on a TDi. Yes you can fit them a kit costs around £350 as it needs to be electronically operated as theres no inlet vacuum on a diesel to operate it.

Is there any point, not really certainly not on a PD with a variable turbo as the vanes are shut right down when off throttle so theres no boost remaining anyhow and as theres not vane face to work on it doesnt slow down.

So you basically paying £350 for the noise, which youll get bored of. Put the money towards a hybrid tubo and a remap, then the turbo really makes some propper noises!. "

If anyone asks - here's the answer!

We already knew the answer - it comes up fairly frequently and is shot down in a ball of flame equally as frequently :D

I had a fairly stock E30 M3 when i was 22.

You obviously had no house, wife or children to eat up your money then! :D

You obviously had no house

:P :P :P

So by the looks of it you had your first children at about 18 and didn't waste any time having some more. Your wife looks a little older than you, though :P

WTF are you talking about.

You said:

I posted with yes. I have a house, wife and kids. Ok, so at that time i only had 2 kids, a house and wife ? But does that make the difference ?

Well I asked a question about a time 4 years ago, and you answered it in the present, so I wasn't sure if the answer applied.

I wish I had your job - when I was 22, I had a mortgage and a new wife, and no cash to run M3s, so I was intrigued to know if things have changed - obviously they have!

I have got my priorities right though - with the money from working whilst at uni, I have bought my furby vRS and left my dept for when I can be bothered to pay it off!
