Change of colour = price rise

Featured Replies

Hi there. I am after some advice. I ordered a vrs in white 2 weeks ago with an expected delivery in march 22.

Having saw the new graphite grey colour opinion I asked to change my order but dealer has told me that while they can change the order the car would no longer be protected from any annual price increases made by Skoda between now and when i collect my car in march.

Both colours are free on the website so should not make a difference on the price of the car

They said prices could rise around 2% but they can't guarantee that there will be one considering there was one in August.

I am pushing back on this as I don't think it's fair but I am after some advice on whether this is genuine or not.

Thanks

If someone at the dealership is able to speak the words to tell you this it must be written down someplace so that they know this.

Ask them to show you the T&C's or the document that has informed them.

I suspect it means a dealer is not protected from Skoda amending the price, so they would push the cost change onto you.

However it is unclear to me where the 2% has come from (or is that just an estimate), or if you ordered today would you get same price and it was protected.

Sounds fair, there must be a cutoff date where they can guarantee the price up to. I’ve seen this a lot while I was waiting to order a new work car.

I ordered 2 weeks ago and be build is not locked in yet.  Just sitting in a computer system. Price rise happened just before I ordered.  I understand prices rise normally yearly and the 2% is an estimate (average).

The issue here is. Why does changing a colour which has no material cost to Skoda justify skoda pushing an annual price rise onto me whereas if I left my order as is and keep the colour they won't push a price rise on to me.

It’s all about production planning, which is insanely complicated for cars. You might not think it would add cost for Skoda, but it will complicate matters = more cost.

Hmm okay thanks all for the comments.   They are not saying the price will rise but it could do. So it's up to me whether I want to risk it to get the new colour or just stick to my original choice.

Best call in personally and ask the Dealer Principal if it can be done and not change what you have agreed to.  Just to be sure that it is not a sales executive that can not be bothered signing in to make the change.

Whenever I've ordered a new car in the past 30 years the purchase contract has always said that the price and VAT rate will be those on the date of delivery not the date of ordering, although I had a good enough relationship with one dealer that they stood by the price at the time of ordering as a gesture of goodwill despite what the contract said.

My dealer told me I could make alot of changes (one was changing the colour) to my order up to the point it gets "locked" by the factory (guess that equates to status "With production week"). They said nothing about "no longer be protected from any annual price increases". I think what they've told you @Kingelksounds really strange.

Well Skoda have relented and agreed the changes and still price protected. So happy days. Me 1 dealer 0. 😄
