Reversing Camera for Skoda Fabia MkIII

Hi,

 

I have read lots of useful posts and especially from @weyland @SashaGrace and @pab567 , am trying to install a wireless reverse camera on my Fabia III, however I realise that getting the power to the camera from tailgate light could be quite challenging and hence I was wondering if I can use the rear wiper motor instead as a source of power for the parking camera. (If yes then how do I attach it, as in how do I access the wiring for the rear wiper motor)

 

Any recommendations as to which one could be better - one of those wirelss cameras (from the likes of Auto Vox etc) or would one of those from AliExpress (link here) fit in my Fabia? these are the details of my Infotainment System:

(Couldn't figure out how to tell whether it's Bolero or some other model, but guessing that the models perhaps determine whether or not those AliExpress Cameras can be fitted)

Bolero MY17

I do not recommend wireless cameras - wired camera offers higher picture quality and no distortions.

Use multimeter to identify +12V on one of rear wiper motor cables when ignition is on (I think this is brown cable but 100% sure).

Thanks, so it's a Bolero MY17 system and I am guessing that there is no need to update my current version or perhaps there is no update available for that.

Would you be able to kindly point me how to remove the trim in the attached photo - would normal trim removal tools suffice? I am assuming that the trim needs to be removed and that the rear wiper motor must be inside this.

That's interesting, tried searching for that, would you mind telling me please any specific model that you would recommend? GoPro's seem to be quite expensive, and I spotted some wired camera's on AliExpress for £20 or so.

Would a GoPro be mounted on the inside of the rear windscreen?

One torx (I think T20 or T25) screw (internal trunk handle) then just pull it out.

Yes, but they are at least Tv broadcast quality; the guy who's videos I linked in "Racing and Advanced Driving" uses 2 (front and rear), so judge for yourself.

Its really easy to run a wired camera and its OEM fitment too... I used an Ali Express kit @ £45 delivered. 

 

I wouldn't recommend wireless cameras due to interference from radio, dab etc. Just more hassle than worth.

Thanks a bunch @JGrindel I did come across that link earlier (by wirer), but now that you have mentioned it as well, that gives me more confidence to attempt it! ☺️

Would you be able to send a link of AliExpress Camera as well as there are just simply too many options on AliExpress and it's a bit confusing which one to go for - given that unlike Amazon there are long delivery times (coming fro China ofcourse) and returns might not be that straight forward either. 

How do I go about coding the VCDS, or any link etc to purchase VCDS. Please feel free to DM the links if that's breaking any sort of policy/ rules.

no worries! 

 

Just take it easy and take your time. Its worth investing in some trim removal tools and radio keys. I got mine from amazon.

I then loomed the cables using Tessa felt tape. - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262273221513

 

When fitting I ran a fuse tap for the power of the camera at the fuse box end as didnt have access to the correct pin for the fuse box. Thats the only difference I did.  A little tip I found was using large long cable ties to pull wires through the boot metal and C pillar. 

 

To code the camera I used OBDEleven. But you can use this map to locate a member who can code it for you for beer tokens / small fee -
