DSG "reset"

Featured Replies

A week or so into driving my '69 1.5Tsi Sportline DSG and I'm finding that pulling away slowly from standstill/driving <10mph can feel a little jerky/kangaroo-y at times. Admittedly it could just be me getting used to this car/engine, having driven diesels for many years (and most recently a 2.0Tdi Octavia for 6 years), always autos/DSGs though.

I've seen numerous articles on "resetting" the DSG (ignition on, pedal down to the floor for 10-20 secs, ignition off), and wondered what exactly this does, as there seems to be some debate around this. From what I've read, a "reset" makes the gear changes smoother, so it's possibly not something that would help my particular issue.

Has the car had the Software updates that were introduced?    Best get used to the car as it is.   If you really want to try that reset method then no harm in doing it and you will be the one that notices as difference or thinks they do.   ??? Is it a Skoda approved used car?   If so or even if not check what if any software update it has. Check the service and warranty work and service campaign  record on the Skoda System.   You might want to know if the car could have been one previously rejected by an owner because of how it drove.

Try it and see.

Early 1.5 engines certainly had some hesitation/ kangaroo  problems but the latest software updates seem to have solved this. Has your car had the fix applied?

@e-Roottoot beat me to it.

Hmm, I thought the ‘kangaroo’ effect was normally found in manual versions. The DSG should smooth out any of that hesitancy.

We know what thought did!   'Normally' found is not 'Exclusively found' unfortunately.

Best read the various threads in the Karoq Section.

Often members posted that it was a Manual issue while ignoring those members posts with a DSG that had the issue. Even members that rejected or just got rid of cars as they were messed about long enough by Dealerships and Skoda UK.

If a salesperson says they have never heard of the issue then maybe this is there first month at work or they are just as Dealerships like their employees to be.

Thanks for the replies so far. @e-Roottoot: yes it was a Skoda approved used car (North Wales Skoda). I'm assuming they would have taken care of any outstanding recall actions or s/w updates?

Regarding software updates, is there somewhere that tells me the current version? And is the update something I can do myself or is it a dealer job? I found Skoda "update portal" website, but when I enter the VIN it only lists a number of satnav maps to download.

And if I enter my VIN into the Skoda "recall actions" website, I just get a "service temporarily unavailable"!

Just Email the Dealership and ask them to send the vehicles history and Service Campaign Recall Actions history.  Never assume that a Dealership carries out TPI's /Recall Actions or even ones that are RECALLS on the DVLA / DfT / Gov recall site.  'Safety Critical ones'.  Because they might not have.

(Never assume a car was put back to Factory Setting either as people remap, change Brake Assist, Steering Assist, XDS / XDS+ settings etc etc. then trade in or return leased cars set as they have done.)

Having now had the Karoq for 3 weeks I can offer a bit more insight on the issue that I originally posted about. The jerkiness is most noticeable when driving at a steady speed in 2nd gear. I have found the accelerator pedal to be more sensitive than my last car (Octavia 2.0Tdi), so perhaps it's just down to me imperceptibly moving the pedal when I think I'm holding my foot steady? Seems a bit unlikely though.

I've also been scaring myself by reading various articles about DG200 DSG reliability. Most seem to be several years old now though, so wondered if any such issues still exist?

My Golf SV 1.4TSI DSG ran quite happily for 48,300 miles and nearly 6 years with no problems (until I sold it for my Karoq). But to ease any worries you can always extend the warranty.

Is it the same in Eco Mode?  I believe that mode "softens" the throttle response.
