Brake squeak?

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I have owned my Mk1 Fabia VRS (54 plate) for about 4 or 5 years now.

Ever since I have owned the car there has been a squeak from the front. Originally the squeak would start when the steering was angled at a certain position (mostly when turning left) which I assumed meant the discs were warped, cheap parts used or so forth. The noise would dissapear if I applied the brakes. When the car was cold I could not hear the squeak, but become louder as the brakes become warmed up. I had the brakes stripped down by different garages, discs checked etc and couldn't find anything therefore I learned to live with it as it didn't impact the way the car braked.

Last month I changed the front discs and pads using Brembos parts which at first seemed to fix the issue. However, as time has passed the noise has returned and is actually even louder than before! As mentioned above, previously the noise would occur only when the steering was angled at a certain position however now it's persistent regardless of steering position (i.e. straight line, turning etc). I should mention, the noise still goes away if I apply the brakes.

Has anyone experienced this before and if so what was the outcome?

Thanks in advance.

James

Mine does it very slightly, it's just caliper drag.

Turn up the stereo and brake harder to get the pads properly bedded in.

If when cornering in one dimension, could be a wheel bearing issue as cornering would generally change loading from radial with minimum axial to radial and greater axial loading on the bearing races. If all the time could be developing bearing wear.
