Roomster overwhelmed by choice

Featured Replies

Looking for a car to sleep in to extend my tent camping season. Roomster is top of my list (Citroen berlingo has got too expensive). I’d value your knowledge as I’m completely overwhelmed! My preference is petrol and my eye is on fuel consumption and road tax cost. I’d prefer a later model but willing to be persuaded otherwise. From research I’ve read 1.2 TSI 12v is a good ‘un… Which bhp? Help!!!

I have the original brochure and the 1.2 12V is a 3-pot engine with 4 valves per cylinder delivering 69PS and is the least powerful of the range and is a VED band higher (F). It is not a tsi as it lacks a turbo so is slow. The TSI engines are 8V 4-pots delivering 86 or 105PS. Hope this helps.

I agree with @edbostan The 3 cylinder 69PS non-turbo engines fitted to early Roomsters were slow and thirsty. Definitely go for one of the later 4 cylinder 86 or 105PS turbo engines.

I had two Roomsters, a 1.9 diesel and a 1.2 105PS petrol.  The petrol engine was almost as flexible and economical as the diesel engine - and a lot quieter! I have a later version of the petrol engine in my Yeti and remain very pleased with it.

We have a 1.2 tsi 105, quiet and reliable

Never had any problems with engine in 9 years, although had to change battery and tailgate wiring loom about 18 months ago
