Frequent Regens

Featured Replies

Back in July we had a problem(s) with the Yeti after a 100 miles journey, the car started a regen which was ok, but the car also started having other problems which have now been fixed. However, since then the car has started doing frequent regens after only a 50-60 miles usage. I know this isn't normal since this our second Yeti, and the car sounds like it has a slight hole in exhaust system from near the front end, the system has been inspected by 2 garages and they can't find anything wrong, also had 2 passive regnes carred out. Should I buy some fuel additive to clean the dpf out before looking into replacing the dpf unit and does anyone have an idea how much it may cost to replace the dpf and any recommendaions for fuel additive.

Thanks for any advice.

Probably a good idea to set out what model, what engine, what year, total mileage to date and what the other problems were (engine ECU update?)

Thanks

Model is 2014 Outdoor SE TDI CR 4x4 on 37,000 miles 140, other problem was coupling at rear making noise, no ECU update as far as I know.

@darfash01Welcome.

About the noise at the rear.

How many times has the Haldex been correctly serviced with a clean out, not just an Oil change?

It should have been at least twice by now.  @ each 3 years or sooner rather than at 30,000 miles.

Hi

Haldex has not been cleaned out as you suggest, oil was changed as part of the process of elimination a few weeks ago, but that problem has now been solved. Thanks for the advice anyway, want to know about adding fuel additive to clean out dpf.

It's probably not that straightforward.

What diagnostic readings are you getting for soot and ash levels?

This may unlock the advice you are after.

Unfortunately not got the readings for soot and ash levels, both garages said they were OK.

You are trying to make decisions based on wishy washy data.

For the sake of £25 ish you might as well get an OBD gadget such as Carista, it will allow you to use apps like VAGDPF that tell you what's actually happening with your DPF.

The Carista app will also allow you to force a regen.

Here's a VAGDPF screenshot to give you an idea what I mean

I'm pretty sure that car would have been due to get the emissions "fix". which did involve an ECU update.  Whoever had the car at the time the "fix" was being rolled out would have had to explicitly request that the "fix" not be applied during a dealer service.  If you had the car from new, had it serviced at a dealership, and didn't refuse the "fix" then it will almost certainly have had it done.  If you acquired the car second-hand then it will likely depend on whether or not the previous owner refused the "fix".  I believe there is a way to find out if a particular vehicle was due for the "fix" and whether it got it - somewhere on the Skoda web site I think but someone else on here may know for sure.

Go here and enter vehicle VIN: http://skoda-recallactions.skoda-auto.com/en-gb?cd=0
If it says no action needed it has had the fix.
