Timing Belt

Hi all,

 

I’ve just had the timing belt changed on my 2016 1.2tsi Yeti due to it being 5 years.

 

Advised that water pump doesn’t need changing on this model as it’s not part of that kit, is this correct?

 

Bit confused.

1.2 TSI water pump does not run on the cambelt so no point replacing it on that engine.

That is correct on the 1.2tsi but misleading in that the water pump on the 1.8T and 1.9TDi engines, whilst driven by the cambelt, is not part of the cambelt kit.

I just had my cambelt done too on my 2016 1.2 Yeti at a VW specialist garage. They said they recommend to change the water pump every 2nd cambelt change. Not an official requirement but something they recommend by experience.

I particularly searched for a VW specialist that had the VAS 611007 to check/set the valve timing once the new belt was fitted. The use of that expensive timing tool was the reason I didn't do the belt myself.
