I think the weight can be adjusted on vcds so perhaps that needs looking in to as your old one may have been set lighter.

i have an obd eleven, would that do?

I doubt it. Not sure even if the Xtool gadget for VW's will.

ok thank you, is there another way to do it?

in fairness there should be no need to change anything, you have simply replaced the rack.

as far as I'm aware there is no electronics "in the rack" that can be set / adjusted with VCDS

What you will probably find is that the "new" rack has no play at all in any joints where as your old one was probably pretty worn so "felt" easier. I would be tempted to drive it for a few hundred miles before doing anything else, it may well "loosen up"

I think you're right there Urban... The adjustment will be in the power steering pump, to weight/lighten the steering.

thank you guys

will just keep driving it for now and see what happens.

i have connected my odb eleven to see what i can change and the steering assistance showed up and it also lets me change the value. right now its on 10140. if that is showing on my obdeleven, does it mean i can change the value or is it something else?

i am thinking about changing 10140 to 10120 as 10150 is very heavy steering so i am guessing lower the 2nd to last digit to make the steering lighter? to see if that makes any difference, if not then i will just change it back.

Driving for a while on the new rack as it is is a good idea but not so with guessing numbers from codes, there's thread on here about codes have a look at that and research elsewhere but don't guess, steering not a system you want to guess with.

If you've not already done so, I think it's also a good time to check all four/five tyre pressures with the change of weather.

ETA: First edit wasn't to copy mfgf but to add explanation, seems we agree on tyres but not steering adjustment.  😄

Just as long as you can return to where you started from, give it a whirl! Be handy to see what happens. Oh, bit obvious this one but... The front tyres ARE inflated correctly? That will make a difference to the steering weight.

thank you guys

someone on here changed from 10120 to 10140 and that made the steering heavy and at 10150 it makes your steering very heavy.

both front tyres have been changed and the person who changed them have inflated them to right psi.

OK, I won't mention the tyre sizes as being correct and the rotation of the tyres too... Oh bumpers, I just did!

Never trust garage (and tyre places?) or petrol station tyre pressure gauges for accuracy they can often be well out.

I literally came in half-an-hour ago from resetting our eight tyres (no spare wheels) as they were 'cold' and all needed a bit adding as they were last done when the weather was warmer.  I use the same pocket tyre pressure gauge all the time so that any very small discrepancies remain within the same (very tight) range.

The Fabia having the fashion for larger wheels with lower profile wider tyres and higher pressures sometimes needs minor tyre pressure adding because of all the potholes, my car with 13" wheels and 155/80r13 (79 T) tyres at 24 and 26psi rarely vary in their pressure (nor did the previous 145/80r13 ,75 T).

Stop, you'll get me going on rolling circumference.  😊

Having had a few issues with tyre places over the decades always best to check, on a previous rear wheel drive Skoda I had a tyre place put a front wheel on the rear and vice-versa when the pressures where quite different front to rear, not good for straight braking.

had a look at the obdeleven codes on this site but they are different numbers to the one showing on my obdeleven though, very strange.

thank you, just been looking at the dash light warning symbols and i thought it was the steering wheel but it is not, its the brake pads. very strange as i have changed them aprox a year ago. i thought they last longer than that.

They do generally last longer unless they're horrible cheap soft pads.

Yeah, the warning light is for the front pads, not the rear drums.

but they are still like new though, will there be something wrong with the sensors?

Broken wire or connector come unplugged, possibly.
