Different sized spare wheel.

Featured Replies

My spare wheel is r18 and all my tires are r16 😧. The spare wheel has never been used. Is this difference a problem?

Best sit next to the tyres on the car and see how it compares.

Best try it on the car and be sure it is a 5 x 100 pattern that will fit, just incase someone stuck that in the car and it is the wrong fitment.

IF YOU HAVE POSTED IN THE FABIA MK2 SECTION IN ERROR IGNORE THAT.

?

IS IT AN OCTAVIA YOU HAVE WITH THE 16" RIMS & TYRES?

It is a Spare Wheel / Tyre to use in an emergency.  As many are, slightly different Circumference / Total Diameter from the ones on the car,

slow down and treat it as an odd one out.

If you have to put it on reset the TPMS when you do, then when the original is fixed or replaced check all pressures, set as you want and reset the TPMS.

I have changed the front tires with the back ones  and the screws fit perfectly on spare, the only thing I have done is lifting more when fitting the spare wheel ( is much bigger).  I haven't driven the car just used the spare to hold the car for replacements . From what I learn it should be same or smaller size but not bigger 😐.  It is an Octavia and didn't realised I have post it wrong.

Too big then.  A little smaller is acceptable with one corner.

Not a bigger / taller tyre.

I used the link you provided ( thank you) and it seems to have same circumference , don't know why I thought It was different. Anyway I think is ok as a spare wheel to be used on this car

Just take note, you're limited to 50mph/80kph with that wheel and tyre mounted.

Skoda Wheels are not the same diameter. 15" is not the same as 16" or 17" or 18".

Tyres might be the same or similar diameters.

But some that give it some thought do not care if there is a Speed Limit Warning on a Steel wheel with a new tyre fitted, they will still reduce speed.

The Standard Spare Steel wheel might / will be a slightly different width, offset & weight and the tyre might be brand new so 'Green' and not at the right pressure unless checked.

Some just are not happy to truck along at the normal speed with 1 odd wheel / tyre on a corner or even just on that axle.

If he gets a standard spare which has tyres same size as the main wheels that limit won't apply

True, but since the OP explicitly asks about a 125/80R18 spare, I don't know what point you think you're making unless it's "flybynite failed reading comprehension". ;)

Its a space saver spare wheel, in order to get the same rolling diameter but with a reduced width of 125mm it is necessary to use an 18" wheel rim, what matters is the rolling diameter and its load rating, the load rating is at a much reduced speed and the rim should be covered by a 360° large yellow sticker warning of that and as a visual indication to any Police that you should not be exceeding 80km/h

It is definitely not a wheel whose purpose was to fit over larger diameter brake discs and calipers.

Does the spare wheel fit flush with the boot floor? If so then if by the means of a moulded polystryrene spacer/tool tray the its a factory fitment, if its 8cm below flush then the original spare has been lost or damaged and replaced with a space saver.

Thank you for correcting and educating me.

I don't wish to argue the toss, if as I believe it is a space saver spare wheel then its purpose is clear, temporary use at restricted speeds in the event of a puncture.

If the load and speed rating of that spare tyre is the same as the tyres homologated on the vehicle (91V shows on the photo) then what I said about it being a space saver & for temporary restricted speed use is incorrect but I doubt it because why would they have used such a narrow rim if there is space for a full width one?

And for what it is worth when I wrote what I did after reading the thread I did not even know who had said what, your username does not ring any bells with me, I may have disagreed with another posting at some time like I will have with most people but I certainly can't have been jumping on everything that you say as your username does not even register with me, I don't know about the others.

Given your response it's far more likely that I will have responded to a previous insult in a reciprocal manner,  you cannot have made a habit of it as until now I was completely aware of you.

Tidy up

As for being part of a "wonderfull trio" I can assure you that there is no connection or communication between us, with one we disagree somewhat but are aligned on most subjects, there is always a mutual respect between us with thanks & like emojis often being exchanged, never any insults or sarcasm, we are both adults & respect the differing views of others.

The other  claims to have blocked me so unlikely to be an ally, nonetheless I respect him, agree with the majority of his postings and show that through thanks and like emojis, I probably have already done so to yourself but not for responses like the above.
