Servicing

Featured Replies

After 1st year service we asked car to be put on variable servicing (last oct) spanner has just popped up saying it needs an oil service so obvs wasn’t chnaged.

car has only done 13,000 miles went to book it in at dealers and Skoda online quoting £289 2nd year service?!?!

surely it just needs the oil change service. We have it on pcp abs don’t want to screw the warranty.

So they never set it as you wanted.   So tell them that.

If you are going to get an Oil & Filter and Inspection Service and Pollen filter done then that is all that is needed.

Or a Oil & Filter Change.

Best have things checked if you are not doing them.  But checked at a competent workshop, not theirs.

Or tell them to reset the Service Indicator for another 372 days.

The Oil change is due at 18,000-20,000 miles from the last oil change since it has long life oil in.

Pay them nothing to reset the Service Indicator, their employees incompetence is wasting your time,

Spoke to them earlier and they said as we are low mileage we should ideally stay on fixed service plan.  We can’t prove we asked for it to be chnaged as it’s our word against them.

i just want to confirm that all we actually need in our 69 2 year old 4x4 tdi is a oil and inspection service not what used to be called a major service (rather than what ever they call it now- enhanced is it????)

I must admit this is the first time Skoda have managed to make me feel like a silly little woman not knowing what I wanted !

The person that took the keys and had you sign for the service allowing them to do updates was supposed to write your instructions on the work / time sheet.

Also to go inspect the wheels and body before accepting the car.

*You can not get the staff these days, or the trainers.*

£249 was the old price of a Major Service @ 2 years , but should never of been @ only 2 years old.  ie 2nd service or 1st Major.

As that included Air Filter, Spark Plugs etc.  and even when not actually changed.

It went to £289 before the changes in 2019/20.

Oil & filter changes were £99 for a while.    Interim Services were £169.

Fixed Price Oil & Filter & Inspection Servicing is £185, and the pollen filter is £35,

But that is on cars 3-10 year old on Fixed Service Intervals.

EXTENDED SCOPE is each 3 years / 30,000 miles.  £60 extra.

Dealerships try taking the Michael.

The Oil & Filter does not need changing, as long as they used the Recommended oil last year.

VW 508 00 / 509 00,   0w 20 FS IV

or even VW504 00 /507 00 5w 30 FS III which they should not of.

So @ 2 years Oil & Filter if you want, & the Pollen Filter.

You could do the Pollen yourself easily.

If the car is going back before 3 years then do not pay next years for the Haldex Service or Brake Fluid Change.

Do not be told you must, because Skoda have not got a Service Schedule, just Recommendations / Guidelines, and Skoda Service Plans do not all include, Haldex or Brake Fluid.

So if simply ignore the little spanner that’s telling me it’s 2 days till next service is due we would have no undue effect on either the car or our warranty ?

I think hubby quite fancies getting it serviced anyway as we are off on a long journey soon and just likes to know that it’s been checked. So that would be just £220 max if we go for pollen filter change which it may be about due anyway.

i on the other hand are a tight arse and am peeved as I specifically requested it be changed to variable and I’m sure I double checked it with the service girl so I shouldn’t be worry about it to at least summer next year.

btw we got the car over 4 years and we adore it so may consider keeping her afterwards especially as diesels are a dieing breed.

Is there no VW Independent that has all the gear and more than an idea that can service the car.

They need to have licensed equipment that can access the System and put the service on the record.

Or the Service indicator can be rest for a year and just the oil change and nothing put on for this year.

The Car left the factory set on Variable Servicing.

So the car does not need serviced at this time as the Dealership well knows that did not reset the system to Variable.

Your car will not be the only one that they did this to.

I have the opposite? Car is set on variable and is now 14 months old with ages to go before service due comes up. Only done 6.5k though now instead of a normal 15k in that time!

Dealer has sent me two reminders so far that annual service is due and I paid for first 2 services when I bought the car. Planning to do first at 18 months and second at 3 years with mot and brake fluid change added.

Has anyone had a Major Service undertaken as part of the fixed price service plan with Skoda Financial Services

If so, what work was actually completed.

The traditional term 'major service' no longer applies, so the answer to your question really depends on what fixed price service plan you're refering to - the one you buy with a new car ( first two services ) or the plan you take out anytime after 1st year.

If it's the latter then 'year 3' in the table posted above is the traditional 'major' service.

It's the 'extended scope' part that equates to a major service. An extended scope consists of https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/extended-scope

If you're an old timer like me, I defined a major service every 2nd year ( when pollen filter was also changed ) but that's no longer the case. If you're on fixed intervals then the first major service is carried out year three or 30,000 miles ( whichever comes first ) and then every two years or 20,000 miles ( wcf )  thereafter.

Hope that helps.

On my Octavia, it came with variable service intervals, but I paid for two services, in advance. On a 3 year pcp, I would be handing back just the two services required. I was surprised to have both the dealer and Skoda phoning me to have it serviced at one year old. Also told that service intervals should have been changed to annual at PDI.

Now have the Karoq, first registered

last April, but on variable services - just waiting to see if I get any phone calls in April (2 free services as I am buying on old school Hire Purchase).

Supposedly it's a condition of the 2 services deal that the car is put on fixed interval servicing.

Having said that, ours was left on variable servicing and if I look at the plan on the Skoda Finance site, it says it expires 2027 - so it appears they do allow for the possibility that it may be 4yrs for the two services to be done.

I noticed the All In plans on our old VW and daughter's SEAT say the same thing.

I used to think fixed was a condition but yes, when you take out a servcie plan, the expiry date is such that it allows for variable servicing ( max 2yr ).

Perhaps when you purchase the car new, the deal lasts only for the 1st two years and then it changes. Who knows? it's VW group afterall, it'll be something else that's been lost in translation.

The only thing I did manage to find out thru experience, was that a car that's been set for a specific service regime can be changed at a later date.  So you can go from fixed to variable and vice-versa.
