Mine does (according to the computer) between 38 and 42mpg around town (it's a taxi) and much more on a decent run.

Mines a 130bhp with a Dragon so possibly up to 170ish bhp, the range usually says around 600 miles when I fill it up (which is costing nearly £60 now 3 times a week)

All depends on how much fun you are having ...the overall average trip in mine says 37.7 mpg, most days I do a couple of short trips (2-3 miles ) so the mpg isn't great, about 35mpg but on a long run (over 10 miles I get over 49 mpg and sometimes as much as 54 mpg........it's only done 16,000miles so is just starting to loosen up and the mpg is gradually getting better

If you find others are getting more find out how the car was "chipped", some cheaper ones simply throw more fuel in to get more power, it might be this rather than your right foot thats causing the problem, If it smokes heavily when being used hard thats a possible clue.

A Decent Custom map from a reputable tuner should both raise power & will also increase mpg when driven carefully, it should also be showing around 180 bhp which also makes me suspicious. I cant really comment any more without knowing who tweaked the car

:eek: I get more than that out of my standard PD130 Tiptronic!

As Rob says, depends how much you use the loud pedal I guess. Though going by johnjohnhealy's figures, you might need to get it checked out.

Chip is a vw audi o/e unit that plugs into the sensor on the fuel feed pipe. am going to remove it to see how she goes. maybe its just the steel toecaps are too heavy.. ha ha. car is normally the wifes and I have a van but lately she has to go lookin for it everytime she needs it. fabulous piece of machinery.. how do you go up from here without paying silly money.

It may say vw/audi on the part itself but you can bet your life that its an empty plug (probably an original vw/audi part) with the E-Bay special resistor mod in it, probably the nastiest way of extracting more power and clearly not the most economical!!

If the dealer said it was original equipment he was lying, VW, Audi, & Skoda do not offer any performance upgrades at all.

Totally agree, Skoda etc offer no performance enhancing parts & will often refuse any warranty claims on modded cars, it does sound like a cheao E-bay type mod.

I think you will find better MPG when you remove it & as I said earlier if you can afford circa £400 for a decent remap you will find it a different car, failing that go for one of the better tuning boxes but research it carefully, there are many on this forum who can advise you.

If it was a Skoda dealer who sold you the car & once you are sure the box is useless I would go back & point out his error & you could even say that unless he pays for a decent tuning box you will tell Skoda what he is telling customers, not a nice way to do business but you might get a decent box paid for, after all if it prooves to be one of the sub £100 boxes you have been conned.

As for where do you go next with cars, If you really like the car I would pay for a decent map to get the real potential out of the car, In the next year or 2 the Superb is due to be replaced with a new model so you could then either go for that or alternativly pick up one of the last of the current models at what will probably be a severly discounted price & possibly with a few more toys added.

Weve just bought a brand new Superb & I agree, its a stunning car & incredible value for money but steer clear of the V6 as others have said they are pretty thirsty.

I have a 2.8 tipronic and am very pleased with the economy and return consistantly at least 31mpg on long runs in shear quiet and smoothness. A Resent trip to South of France fully loaded and 4 occupants returned 31 - 32 on both outward, sightseeing and return trip at a steady 80 - 85 on the long hauls which I find excellent for an engine of this size. I guess it depends on what and how many miles you do in a car - Mine is for purly please and no work commutes so dont mind the extra premium in fuel costs.

Agree deisels are more econonomic and have great pulling power however having driven both 130 and 140 Superbs (manuals) for some miles to me they do not match the rest of the cars refinment. I am looking at possibly trying a 2.5v6 although have not driven one as yet - and will be interested in what they drive like in comparison. However when I spoke to my dealer he steered me off the 2.5 unit, however I would like to check for myself.

removed the so called chip this morning and yes I have a different car. its way smoother on tickover and not a puff of smoke. was in touch with a company in galway (west of Ireland) COME ON MUNSTER... and he can install a pigyback ecu and remap for 600 euro. guarantees me I will be happy....going to meet with him next week.

Check the figures they hope to produce, in particular the torque. When mapping the 130 Diesel I understand its possible to believe it or not get the torque figure too high which will lead to very rapid clutch wear & some vibration when driving at certain revs.

Sorry I cant quote the max figures but others on here with more knowledge of the Diesel can advise on that, theres a lot about it in the Fabia section, the RS has what is "basically" a very similar power plant.

TaviaRs has had a very severe map on his Octy 130 Diesel & is always a good person to talk to, possibly drop him a PM

I'm currently suffering from an "Emmissions Workshop" problem. The car is booked in at a local dealer to try and find what is going on. They think its an electirical fault.

Mine's a 2.5 V6 TDi, and I was getting about 450-500 miles to a tank. but not letting it run down to empty.

I've recenlty filled the car, when the fault came on (again) and the car is just coming up to 1/4 tank left, and I;ve done just over 220 miles. Performance and driving feels unaffected, but at the moment, effieciency has comepletely gone. My old Octy vRS modded was a hell of a lot cheaper to run. THe thing still swears blind its return 42mpg to the gallon though!

have just completed my first medium trip (50 miles e/w) and I am now getting 49.9mpg. thats well up on what I had. will be talking to remap guy and will post results. Thanks for all the help..
