‘Built-in’ Dashcam options?

Featured Replies

Hi,

My father-in-law would like a dashcam for his 2016 Octavia, but he specially wants one that is concealed or integrated in some way, rather than one that sticks to the windscreen, because he works in an area there’s a fairly high chance of someone breaking in to steal if it’s obvious or easy to grab and run.

What kind of options are out there? He’d want something of decent quality but ideally not super expensive, and I don’t really know what’s out there these days.

Thanks!

I have one built into a rear view mirror. It gives you an extra wide mirror internally while having a camera built in. Search interwebs for mirror dash should show you what I mean.

Garmin mini dash cam

It is tiny enough to hide behind the mirror or look like it is intergrated. No screen, but it is app controlled and pretty good quality...

Also got a rear view mirror dashcam. Looks pretty stock, I love them.

Just be aware dash cams in some countries are illegal - especially Austria & Potugal.

Is that right? Recording in public etc?

I think  in Portugal you are not even allowed to own one. Austria it used to be illegal to have one in the car but I think things have relaxed a little. In many countries you have to be really careful what you do with footage.

Makes you realise why there isn't much European footage on dash cam channels.

Has also made me realise why factory integrated dash cams aren't a thing.
